We finally received some rain here and we needed it. I was worried about my hay fields for a while. The only thing growing well so far is my Alfalfa. I hope in a few days to finish disc the fields and start planting corn this weekend.

We have had two straight days of rain. I stare at my neighbors field, which they don't use, and count the days until I can afford to my an offer on it . . . hoping they'll sell it to me. The native grasses over there are growing nicely. I wish I could put some horses over there. :(

I can pull an 11 ft disc with the Kioti 45 in 4wd with no problems. My 18 ft disc behind the 1066 cannot be pulled with the wings down but that's only 2wd but the tractor has 140 hp. I am going to put the duals back on and that should work.
Our ground is a mess, water laying everywhere.

Wow, you must get some serious soil compaction with all that weight on the disk. That may partly explain why there is so much water laying around. I would lighten up a bit, and duals on the big tractor with the 18 ft should help out and reduce compaction also.

This ground did not have a plow or disc in it for over 20 years so water laying around did not come from anything I did to the soil. The disc in the pic is actually a lightweight disc compared to many being used, a baby compared to the IH 490 that I am pulling.
I need drainage tile put in. most that was in has been closed up over the years. We live in a hollow where there are many springs and seeps, good during dry spells but a bugger when you get 7 inches of rain in a short time.

I can relate to the problems of wet ground, living in a low, flood-prone area myself. My family has struggled to get our spring tillage done on this farm ever since the Civil war days when my great-great grandad first bought it. I finally loosened up and got a 4wd tractor a few years ago and man has that got the job done. It will pull a plow or disk right thru the mud holes without even lifting it a bit, and also uses around 25% less fuel doing the same work as the 2wd I used previusly.

Oleozz,

Very nice picture. From what I can see in the picture, it's a beautiful area, and I'm sure that every minute you spend working the land in those surroundings is time well spent!!!!!!!!

Good Afternoon Oleozz,
Thanks for all those great shots, and Robert thanks for the neat video, really enjoyed the thread !

Im hoping to sink my 2 BTM Dearborn into the ground next weekend weather permitting ! I have not had the chance to rebuild my 7 ft disc harrow yet but am hopeful to get into that project soon !

Oleozz the 1066 looks to be doing a great job for you, enjoy ! ;) :)

Your welcome. I hope to get some pics and video of lime spreading and planting when I get the weather to cooperate. Right now I am fertilizing the vineyards but ran out of fertilizer. I will grab another 1k of tripple 19 tomorrow and finish up the last vineyard. I should start a new thread and post my farm in that one instead of hijacking this one like I did.

Nah.... it's been a pleasure to wander from one farm to another on this thread. Enjoying the scenery and hearing about the differing conditions around the country.

Thanks for sharing.

wolc123-You can be very proud that you still have the family farm after all those years. I do wish that my bigger tractor was 4wd but just couldn't afford it.
Eddie W---I was born and raised in this area and it is pretty country but starting to get "built up". Many local farms are being sold to developers. I have a good friend in Corpus Christi that I sell trained bird dogs to and I like the looks of his country also.
Morning Scotty--I see from your pics that you have been hard at work. Your new post hole digger looks great, something I could use here at times.
Robert--Don't worry about hijacking this thread, I really enjoy your work pics.
Fish---Your Alaskan spring snow does not look inviting to me but your JD 110 looks like a brute of a machine. Good luck with it and I hope things thaw out so you can get to work on it.
