Spencer,

Thanks for the gunvault link and the testamonial. I've been meaning to get something like that for the past 3 months and don't have a dealer nearby. I'm ordering one right after I finish this message /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

Hey,

I still have my Red Ryder. It has been very abused over the years. I also still have a BB in the palm of my right hand from trying to unscrew the magazine on my brother's daisy pump.

I grew up with guns. It seamed our home had at least 1 or 2 in every corner. We never had any problems. It was just a part of life. Never thought anything about it until I got married and the wife protested the gun rack.

But I won out and thus both my daughters came to know and respect guns. To this day one daughter owns a few and the other does not. But they both know how to use them and very well I might add.

I still have a love of firearms although I lost interest in hunting after I got out of the Service in 1970.

In fact, I just bought a new Henry 22 magnum Golden Boy last Thursday. Something I have wanted for quite some time. And, I am looking for a High Standard 22 mag Revolver like I had when I was younger.

But, like tractor buying, looking is most of the fun.

Tom

Well I for one am very glad you feel that way. I have only recently begun to find an interest in hunting. This double barrel .410 for some reason had gotten me excited about small game hunting. I'm not sure I would be interested in deer hunting although if I were hungry enough I suspect I would be able to give it a good try.

We eat a lot of wild game, rabbit, quail, dove, deer, wild hog and so on. It supplements our grocery budget in a major way with five healthy eaters in the family. My husband brought home the first deer of the season Sunday and we had the backstrap fried Sunday night, and venison stew Tuesday night and will probably have more tomorrow night. By the time he gets to go back we'll probably be ready for another deer anyway. My youngest daughter got her first deer last year. A small basket rack eight point.

My oldest daughter is not interested in gun hunting but hunts hogs with her boyfriend using dogs and traps. The stories she tells of flying around the woods in the dark will raise the little hairs on the back of your neck, but she LOVES it.

My ex husband has a BB in his chin that has been there since he was seven and he grew up in little Italy In Philly. I wouldn't expect there to be too many BB guns in the inner city like that, but one found it's way to him. Couldn't have happened to a nicer guy /forums/images/graemlins/smirk.gif

My husband, like you, grew up with guns, always had a couple in the house. I did not. I was exposed to a gun for the first time at seventeen when I went hunting in Odessa Texas with friends. They went off and left me with a fully loaded and cocked 30.06. I was shooting at mud puddles. I had no idea what that thing could do. It was only by the sheer grace of God that I didn't hurt myself or someone else. Up to that point the only gun I'd ever seen was on television. /forums/images/graemlins/ooo.gif

Cindy, you can see some of my wild game recipes at www.Jaysoutdoors.com See; BBQ Grouse and Greek Venison Loin marinade. In my view we need more ladies in the out doors. A little less scratchin and other stuff. I travel to Alaska to hunt regularly and the only guide I use is a woman. a lot of guys freak out about this. I have no idea why. she can out walk me and all my hunts have been excellent. Last Time I took my wife on a Bear and caribou hunt. She wasn't crazy about five days in a tent with out a shower but she did alright. Dave

Thanks, Mike. /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

My wife, who is the embodiment of New England Thriftiness, points out that I could reduce my operating expenses by 50% if I could hit quarters! /forums/images/graemlins/shocked.gif

Dave...I would kill for a few weeks in a tent somewhere by a nice clean stream. I love it outdoors, and probably spend more time in it than I should considering my job (housewife) kinda ties me to the house. One of the things I miss most about Texas is camping out at Lake Austin and fishing, cooking over the fire. Here in Fla, the insects are awful. if you're not tormented by mosquitos, gnats, no seeums and chiggers, the fire ants find your camp sight within minutes. Not too mention any puddle over three feet deep could have a gator in it. /forums/images/graemlins/crazy.gif

Late fall is about the only time to camp out around here and it's also when all the oranges come ripe so we've got picking going on and we are up to our necks in 4-H piglets trying to get them all sold before fair times roll around so we're usually too busy. We have to settle for building big campfires in the front yard and camping out in the bed of the truck. /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif
