The dealer didn't jack you around, the forgetful/lazy salesperson did. After waiting for the quote that never came, you could have spoke with the service manager and he would have lit some fires to get you satisfied.

Also, the dealer purchased mower would not be delivered to you in a box. It would be thoroughly assembled, tested and ready to mow, unless you asked for it that way. And the mechanics there will be a lot more knowledgeable than the kids that assemble it at Lowes.
My dad and Harry Truman said 'the buck stops here'. Every employee of a dealership IS the dealer. Ultimately, the owner of the store is 100% responsible for hiring, training and firing. No excuses. A customer should not have to track down the manager or owner to get basic things handled. A competent manager follows up with those things as a part of their job.

In 2005? I bought Cub Cadet 50" zero turn, it was a great mower, I passed it on to my daughter, and it still runs great.
The only reason I don't have it now is because now I have a 5 acre lawn, so we bought a bad boy mower which mows a lot faster but cost mucho more dinero..

I was told it would be in a box. The salesperson said "The box will fit in your Toyota truck.". Do assembled tractors come in a box?

I went to buy a Z525E from the local John Deere dealer. They said it was still in the crate and would call me to come see it when they got it assembled. No word for a week, so I called them. I was told that they'd sold it and the guy had already picked it up. I found another JD dealer that said he had one on his lot. Made arrangements to meet him at specific time. Took my trailer to bring it home. He wasn't there at the dealership. The dealership wasn't closed, just the receptionist was there. Ended up going to Lowe's to buy it.

Hope the new JD works out Good.
Really thought about it but,
i just couldn't bring myself to do it.
we found a Good running used X 500 for a bit less than the New box store JDs.
Been mowing the wheels off it and all I can say is it is a Great mower that I think has another 10 years or more left in it. Hope the new JD $3K
models are worthy of the JD name.

ps. Kind of agree on JD getting rid of the smaller long time dealers. Just doesn't seem as small town friendly now that it is under large group facility owners.
Please keep us updated on how the new JD runs and holds up, interested to know if they are a Good product for the money.

Thoroughly asembled, tested and ready to mow? Huh, do you really think JD dealers use top dollar techs to assemble and “test” these tractors? I find that hard to believe. Although I bleed green when cut, I’ve bought many JD tractors from different dealers and I certainly can’t support that statement.

Nobody has said it directly, though it's been alluded to: SHOP THE DEALER! The one you've been talking to will be a problem if the experience you have had so far is the norm. Buy from a place that will service what they sell...it won't be Lowe's or any other major retail chain.

The dealer is into selling big tractors that cost more than your house. Go with something from a smaller dealer (so you actually matter) or from HD or Lowe's - you may not matter to them, but at least you'll get a better deal.

At least Cub Cadet tells you that you are getting a Kohler 7000 series engine on their XT1 riding mower. Cub Cadet XT1 LT46 Lawn Tractor | Cub Cadet US

Who actually makes the engine for the John Deere S140?

The ones at Lowes are assembled by a contracted dealer as well, not by Lowes employees.
