Yes. If I understand you correctly you believe this is a bad suggestion?

The original poster was concerned about battery gasses next to his furnace. The suggestion was aimed at that concern.

We have run whole commercial building with a UPS they come in many more sizes and configurations than people imagine. And in fact have been used for this type application many times.

It comes down to cost and other issues as to weather a Generator is a better choice. But autostart generators were and still are not always the best or most cost effective answer.

Thanks for all the input. I'm sure I'm paranoid - or perhaps my wife is - but I'm still uncomfortable putting a battery sump system within 6' of the furnace & water tank open flames. I've definitely considered a generator wired to the house, but the cost is quite high. Maybe I'll just have to rely on my insurance and absorb the $500 deductible! Oh well. Again, thanks. Jack
