A New Rule?

Oh - BTW, I remember Lisa Lou, wasn't she from the Islets of Langerhans?

;)The pretty girls I went to high school with are now mostly all Grandmothers so I wouldn't use any of their real names. If you know a cute little Lisa Lou from where ever then she is a different Lass from those I recall.
Next years reunion will be our fortieth.

With that code, then all we have to do is find this thread, look for post 19 to find the code, write it down and then fill in the correct info assuming we all had loaders, backhoes and ballast boxes and knew all the weights by heart, none of which I know about either of my tractors so it would mostly be blanks or ?????? all the way. By the way, engine HP and PTO HP are not a whole bunch different, usually 5 or 6 HP difference which in most cases of mowing etc can be differentiated by mowing conditions between heavy grass and light weeds. One can stall a 65 Hp tractor with a 6 foot BH in heavy cover if travel speed is too fast, therefore the old 5 HP per foot rule is just a rule of thumb. I have pulled a 6 foot BH with an 8N Ford (19 Hp) clipping pasture weeds in 4th gear(road gear) and no danger of stalling cutting the bitter weeds, but I have also put a heavy load on a 120 HP with a 6 footer also when going fast in heavy cover. Depending on your mowing conditions, you might run as little as 2-3 HP per foot or 15 Hp per foot.

I simply give my advice in terms of rules of thumb (15hp per single bottom plow, 5hp per foot for brush hogs, 5hp per foot for finish mowers, 5 hp per foot for off set discs)

I may not know how many hp the OP's tractor is, but if i give my advise like the above, or in refrance to my 33hp then I trust the OP can interpert those results for there own tractor.

. However, as mentioned above, with today's tractors and all of the variations in weights and sizes as compared to 30-40 years ago, that can be a little misleading too.

yep.. saying 48hp ford .. hm.. does than mean a ford 841 or a ford 4600 2 very different machines.. hp # is accurate.. but weight and size are different.. fuel could be different.. 3pt lift and hyd capacity WAY different... and work they will due due to weight and capacity is different. I do stuff with my 4600 that my 8XX tractors won't dream of.. andd it's not due to the engine hp...

Generally, if I have to go look up somebody's tractor to find out the weight, HP, hyd pump capacity, etc ... and I don't have skin in the game, I just move on to the next thread.

I expect the same from other readers, so if I have a question about my equipment I try to give all the relevant facts. Time is precious. Tick tock, tick tock ...

A newbie asks if he can pull a 3 bottom plow with his 20 horse Yanmar. Simple answer, how much more information do you need? Weight, trans, cooling fluid volume, type of seat.
