Just curious.....how many magazines and how much .223 ammo would you have to possess before you would feel comfortably stocked up?

I like to keep about 1500 rounds around.
I have 4 or 5 20 round magazines and maybe 5 or 6 30 round mags.
I only keep one magazine charged though.

Depends on how often you shoot. How far away the range is from your home. And what your storage/home life area is like.
Some people think 200 and 4 mags other much more. But if you shoot 1000 rounds in a weekend doing competition stuff, you'll keep a lot more in hand.
To each their own I guess.

I don't think there is a number; depends on future availability I supposed. If the supply and cost remained constant I suppose we could come up with an amount. I buy in bulk to save cost not so much as to "stock up" for an indefinite time period.

range time makes a difference too.

at my range, there are only 10 lanes for pistol / rifle... and there is almost ALWAYS a standing line.

I don't think it's to considerate to go tot he range to shoot 300rnds ammo, but have a single 30 round mag and a crate of ammo, and set there holdin gup that bench thumbing cartridges into a mag for a couple minutes.. then shooting a couple mintues, and repeating till I've burned 2 hours fo range time.. when I could have simly had a stack of pre-loaded mags. walked up.. shot my load so to speak, and left.. etc..

ps.. hit the range early.. got there as soon as it opened. table and floor was COVERED in brass.. and it was all stomped and crushed and scuffed up :(

I scooped up a few handfulls of 9mm that landed on the wooden shooting rest of the lane I claimed.. bu ibet there was 1000 mixed empty brass ont he concrete all ruined.. :( :( someone shot alot the night before and did not police their brass.. and just walked all over it.. :(

Since I was in the area earlier today, I decided to go to Walmart to buy a "Gun Sock". They didn't have any. The only ammo available were shotgun shells and these were only 7 1/2 shot.

There is more to the story as I remember, this airgun was used by the Austrian army in the time period, and they had service wagons at battlefields to provide new butt-stocks (the air reservoirs) for a rapid change out, and also huge pumps to keep charging the reservoirs. The bicycle pump device was for the individual soldier when these "air charging stations" could not get to them. This rifle was very intricately made and quite complicated. This rifle was so far ahead of its time in is almost unbelievable.
