It is kinda funny because I put the thing on and lowered the 3-point and away I went, when I got to the ditch at the end of my property I began a turn--no turn--just kept going straight right into the ditch. Yep, to turn with the aerator down it is needed to lift it back up! That Agrifab, not making fun of you really is a POJ. It would not pull a core in my yard, the First Choice did a good job of pulling cores about 1 inch deep. J

RF, it could in theory penetrate about 3 inches or so but I am getting about 1 inch give or take in my clay. This is typical from aerations I have seen done elsewhere. J

Thanks for the info Tres. I agree with ya that turning with a rear ground engaging implement can be a little tricky, I seem to have the best luck in 4WD, and by applying the inside brake pretty hard. Sometimes, depending on the traction conditions, it still does not come around all that well.

Wow! I rented the Agri-Fab to see if I would like it before I bought it. When I was done, I had also bent the tow arm about 30°. I could only get about 1" deep with it even after I placed an old cast iron kitchen sink on it and filled it with gravel.

Since then I have been looking for a quality aerator that I can afford. This First Choice model looks exactly like what I need! Thanks for the info, TresCrows.

Looks like a good quality piece of equipment. Where did you purchase this aerator from? Is this a proto-type and who is the manufacturer?

Thanks for sharing your information.

I have two Ryan aerators. One is a pull behind, and the other is a 3PH. With the pull behind you run all over the place, and turn however you want. It just follows the tractor. When I get to a walk, or something I don't to bang up with the pluggers, I just lift the aerator with hydraulic. The 3PH is a different story. The only it goes is straight. When you get to the end of a straight run, you have to raise it to turn. That gets a little old, especially on short runs. I'm making a piece between the aerator and the 3PH that will allow the tractor to turn about 30 degrees. that should be better than nothing. If it works.

This is a picture of the 3PH aerator. If i get this to turn like I want it to, I'll sell the pull behind.
I have to have one with the weight down on the axle because of the slope on some of my ground. If I put weight above the pluggers it will have all the weight on the low side on a 20 degree slope

If it works the way you want it to, you get a patent on it.

With a 3 pt hitch aerator, it would be a good idea to lift it before turns to prevent side thrust from bending the spoons. Once they're bent, they'll crack if you try to hammer them straight.

But don't disclose it here before you send in the patent papers, because it'll become prior art.
