Air Compressor

Hey Tractor Friends,
I am looking for a good compressor in the 1K range single stage to run impact and sanders. Looking for a 220 volt stand up. Any and all answers would be appreciated.

i got a husky from home depot a couple ys ago. 489$ 60g upright.. single stage.

has done great for me.

I paint tractors. use up to 1" air tools ( for 3/4 and 1" air tools use the large air outlet and large ID hose )..

looking at the tah on the motor/compressor.. it says campbel hausfeld

hard to beat 60gal of air at that price.

I would say dont buy one with a motor that turns at 3250 RPM. they put up lots of air because of the speed where a good volume compressor with a 1740 rpm will last forever & not fly apart because of the speed. ( my opinion )

I did look at a CH #TQ3104 5hp 80gall for 999.00 but I'm not sure I need that much compressor.

I also have a Husky compressor from Home Depot but I have the 80 gallon one. I use it for all my air tools and tire machine. Bought it a few years ago on sale for about $800. It also has a built in regulator with 2 ports the you can cut the pressure down on and yet maintain full pressure off the main line. It's made by Campbell Hausfeld (I think that's how it's spelled). I have it wired for 220V and pressure set for about 150 PSI. I just looked at HD site and they have a whole bunch of air compressors online with free shipping to you home. They have several units under 1k.

I'm sorry, I didn't know you had quiet air impact tools and sanders and needed a quiet compressor.
How many db are your air tools when in use within less than 2-3' from your ears. I don't stand next to my compressor while working. All my air tools are louder than the compressor. Especially the cut off tool. Where do you buy quiet air tools?
I looked at most of the compressors they have on line. Some were not rated for db. Those that were are in the 83-87 db range.

The quincey I looked at was rated at 73 db cause the RPMs was much lower on the pump..650. Sorry no quiet air tools when using them.

Quincy, Devair etc. are true slow speed, industrial compressors. Likely over your budget. The Devair HDi's (likely my next compressor) are approx $3k.

At $1000, your can get "slow" speed if you carefully shop around.

For size, You always "need that much compressor. " Sanders eat air. I have close to 20CFM @90PSI and wish I had 2x that when sanding and sand blasting.

Im not sure about American pricing, but here, the 5hp 80 Gal is about $2500ish. full retail, but can be had for less. Bare in mind this is a FULLY industrial grade compressor, full pressure lubrication. 2 stage. Capable of running 24/7 compressor. 20,000 hr warranty . It can deliver around 20 CFM @175 PSI.

The larger, 7.5hp 80gal which delivers 27ish CFM @150 psi is about $3500.

They do have a lesser line called SDi, still pretty high quality (imported single stage pumps I believe), 10,000hr warranty, for significantly less. 5hp 60gal 21cfm @90(?)PSi for $1085 OR 5hp, 80gal 24cfm for $1895.

I agonized over a purchase selection for many days last year. The tools I was getting called for 9 cfm @ 90 psi, so I wound up having to buy a 60 gallon unit with more than 2 HP to get that kind of air delivery. The one I wound up with is a Campbell Hausfeld unit, and the best price I found on it was from Tractor Supply. Whatever one you buy, look it over carefully before you accept it. The first one I got had fallen over, and the mounting bracket on the top of the tank was bent backward at about a 15 degree angle. I felt like I was taking a risk with the welds cracking, the compressor discharge line was stressed, and the belt cover was broken in several places (both inner and outer covers). The damage was not obvious until we removed the plastic bag they had it wrapped in, which was still stapled to the shipping pallet. Tractor Supply ordered me a replacement unit and exchanged it without any problem.

Murphy: I started a similar thread last year when shopping. And my budget was initially set at about 1000, as you suggest yours is. I eventually spent more money than I planned to (see post #92), but got a lot more for my money, and all USA made.

About a month ago my compressor died and i decided to get a bigger one. I had previously looked at the 60 gallon kobalt at lowes and had made my mind up to go with that when i was readly to get one. I hooked up the trailer and headed on out to lowes. Went around the store picking up other items that i would need to hook it up, then headed for the tool section to get someone to bring one to the front for me. I turned the corner and "WOW", right before my eyes was the exact compressor i came to get with a 249.00 priced tag on it. According to the person working there it was the old model. It pays to look around, i got lucky, but so may you.

Have you picked out a color yet? My 5hp Speedaire keeps on running but when it does die one of the brands I'll be looking hard at is Eaton. I would like to upgrade to a 10hp single phase compressor that should last my lifetime and have more than enough air for anything I may want to do.
