MAN, that is one great looking mailbox! I bet the vandals in my neighborhood would have one heck of a time destroying that one.
One last thing: In my neck of the woods, the authorities recommend mailbox supports that would break away and not cause harm if hit by an automobile. They tell us to use a 4x4 or less for the post. Is your mailbox located on a public street? Just curious...

That's right Al , Not Gov't approved!!!! Question , Should Al install breakaway trees, also ,to save some drunk,s fender ????

Actually, my brick supplier and I had a long discussion about this. They are now getting hand cut stone mailboxes from China shipped over (things that amaze me that they are feasible) and one of the things he was saying was that folks were getting sued, because others hit thier mailbox and they were sued for the damages. These brick mailboxes are hollow, and break apart on impact. (mine is not :D )

Not sure if it is a wives tale, an exxageration, or something from Snopes.com but in our lawsuit, I am never responsible place, I can believe it happens.

But I will take my chances.

Of course, what I think we are going to do, is to add about a 8" steel pipe just off the corner of the masonary to keep the brickwork from getting hit. Although honestly I am more concerened of the mulch trucks getting in and hitting it then anything else.

We are on a dead end, short lane with 6 houses so relatively no traffic. Hope it stays that way.

Alan,

Well okay now that I have seen the pic of the mailbox I understand your earlier comments. However now that i have seen th pics I have t give Hanna and her brother props, man that it tuly an elegant mail box, I really like it. What would really look beautful on it would be a brassengraved plaque with your hosue number on it.

It's coming Rox. Along with what has become the running joke at work. My boss and I go back and forth about "big Money" and who has it, so he has christened the place the "Circle B" ranch, as just a house was not fitting :D .

Course I had to tell him that on the Circle B, his little new car he keeps calling a sport Utility Vehichle (Subaru Triveca I think) we just call a MiniVan on the circle B. ;)

So Yes, the Brass plaque is in the making, and so is a big circle B for the top :D If you cannot poke fun at yourself...

Anyway, yesterday I worked by myself. The DW had a pressing card game to get too..................... Here I thought it was her that wanted a bigger house etc. So I cleaned up a bunch in the front. Hauled the front stash of scrap metal and merged it with the back stash, buried the solid construction debris, like tile and drywall debris.

Today we went out and got some done as well.

Backfilled the block wall with a light concrete mix. 1/4/4 and put a drain unit in the top to funnel away some of the water.

Cleaned and burned some more out front.

Hung one part of the new overhead kitchen cabinets.

Cleaned out all the rooms so when the floor guy shows up Monday, it is ready to go.

Got most the area in front of the house clear of construction debris.

Finished all the painting in the house. Painted the hallway completely, and hallway ceiling. Touched up all ceilings, and cut in the remaining parts of the kitchen.

Put some gray modified cover plates on the switches in the arch stoneway. Does not look quite right, should have put in grey switches etc, but not sure I care enough to change it.

Can't seem to sort out the new camera inside. Have to work some on that, but the outside pictures where not too bad.

Picture of Lil and Babe, just to keep it on the tractor topic. :D

So yesterday, for my birthday :) We laid hardwood flooring, kind of got a slow start going but once we got the first course laid, and the decisions made, the tools in place, and got to the laying and stapling phase it went pretty well. We are using the Bamboo hardwood from Sam's. Overall the quality looks pretty good, and it fairly closely matches (believe it or not) the existing red oak 1 1/4" flooring.

We laid about 100 square feet I think it was. The next 200 should go quicker, I had the complications of the transitions and initial runs to do, but now we are on the open run area's.

Get the joys of doing brakes on trucks tonight, so no flooring for me tonight :)

The floor guys are starting this morning on refinishing the original hardwood floors.

Think I am moving in this weekend. Family will follow a bit later (after the kitchen)

So, today's project was to finish the bamboo flooring, and we did, it came out quite nice. :D

Still have to put in the baseboards etc, but all in all, it is going quite well.

My camera does terrible with the reds and the flourescent lights, I need to play with it more.

The floor guys came out and re-did all the hardwoods, 3 BR, hall, and living room. $1320 later......... They did a nice job, but did not do all they said they would. :( Kind of one of the reason's I went with them, was they said they would get out the scratches etc. that I did not see myself getting out..... They could not either. Life goes on, but it is a reminder of why I do most my stuff myself.

So all the floors are now done in the house. Little touch up poly on the bamboo edges needed where I face nailed it, but all in all.. DONE :D

Kitchen cabinets and appliances here we come.

Taking next week and going to the Youth Nationals with my Son for the funny motorcycle sport that we ride, Observed Trials. It is a good time, and many freinds will be there. Feel bad about leaving the house, but I think the break will do me some good as well.

So here are the floors, sorry for the bad pics of the kitchen, I just cannot seem to get it right. I need to look at Hanna's and shrink them and put them here, there is a slight difference in the price of our camera's

Nope :) off in the mountains of TN riding funny motorcycles, having some time with my kids and close friends, lending a hand when I can at the indoor.

It really was a great time, and a week away from work and the house was probably good for me. :)

Trials Training Center | Motorcycle Schools, Trials Riding, Off-road Adventuring, Lodging - Home

Son Dean is in class C2 and Daughter Christina in Womens 1 line.

We paid the price in results, for not paying the price of practice, but all in all, my kids are pretty fair riders.

Oh, and a picture of Dean and I together is on the 2007 Youth National and Indoor National T-Shirts! So I thought that was pretty darn cool :)

Thanks for asking Rox, House stuff will be rolling again tomorrow.
