ALGE IN DIESAL fuel!

Well all of this sounds really great I guess although I didn't understand most of it. What is the bottom line.

How do you prevent the stuff from growing in your fuel tanks ?

Keep as much moisture out of your tanks (usually mean's keep it full, but to the crowds I deal with usually it means CLOSE THE LID OF THE TANKER DUMMY )

Keep your fuel "fresh" Don't let it sit and stagnate, my 2 cents is 6 months, others will tell you different.

Get your fuel from someone, somewhere that has good fuel management practices. IE do they leave their fill covers open? Are there debris down in their fill sumps that are draining into their tanks, does thier fuel sit unused for long periods of time?

If you do get an algae (micro-organism problem) treat your fuel with a biocide of your flavor, change filters, and try and get the entire system cleaned up.

Sky Pup The reason He said to keep My saddle tanks full on My dump truck is to eliminate water from condesation. This is a 70+year old diesal mechanic [retired]. I know a good Mech. I was a helo. Mech in the Marine CORPS. He was probably turning wrenches when You were in diapers.

LOL toolaholic -> I'm still in diapers now, but I always keep water out of my many diesel fuel tanks and many diesel engines even if my diapers are wet.....

You are correct BTI. I have a jar of ULSD that i keep to show customers how rapidly algae starts to grow in their storage tanks. Hydrotex has formulated a solution that gives you back the much needed lubrication qualities of sulfer, prevents the algae from forming, and disperses water as well. Essentialube treats your fuel, cleans your injectors, pumps etc, improves combustion and regains your lost fuel economy from ULSD. If your not using Essentialube your wasting your money.

LOL, sulfur is not a lubricant, it is a contaminant!

I have two tanks of ULSD with no algae and no water in them and I never even used any Hydrotex or EssentialLube, nor have I wasted any of my money.....

Do you have a condensation issue inside your tanks like we have further north? It's next to imposible to keep moisture out of tanks during the seasonal changes here. In the spring, it seems like everything sweats.

Best way to avoid that is too keep your tanks topped up all the time and keep your storage tanks either underground or inside at a stable temperature. It is the extreme temperature flux range that causes the condensation as well as the expansion and contraction of the fuel allowing the entrance of contaminated air. Keeping the fuel at a constant temp. negates all that.

I find it hard to keep my tanks topped off. I keep the tractor topped off but the 55 gal drum i use as storage has to be half full sooner or later for some times a month or 2. I think that a biocide and lubricity additive it my best bet. any Input??
