Amazon delivery problems using USPS

/ Amazon delivery problems using USPS #42
My wife and I built a new house and moved in several months back. We filled out all of the correct documentation for forwarding mail with the actual address. Somewhere along the line, some person at the PO decided our address was incorrect and changed it without notifying us. Several weeks passed with little to no mail. None of our packages arrived, either. When we approached the forwarding PO about the situation, they claimed our address was supposed to have an N designation, as in N Ridge Rd, which put us in a different town and PO altogether. Of course, the woman involved was entirely wrong and no amount of me telling her was going to fix the issue.

Not only that, but through UPS Surepost, they were making deliveries to all sorts of different addresses in an effort to match up names, and with zero regard to the address. We were completely dumbfounded. To this day, they fail to make deliveries on packages and still have incorrect information on the forwarding labels. To fix the issue, it appears that USPS has just decided to end our forwarding service early.

The issue that sent me over the edge was my monthly train pass being ushered back to sender. That cost us $200 because I had to buy another one. Trust me, not one soul in that godforsaken **** hole cared. I cringe every month thinking that it's going to happen again.

There is so much unmanaged dysfunction and ineptitude in the USPS, that it may be entirely impossible to fix moving forward. This is one instance where it might make more sense to privatize a government service. It's a discussion that really should start to happen sooner rather than later.

At least coming to this forum I recognize that there's company for my misery. Perhaps we can start a support group to deal with our feelings :)

The USPS maintains a verified address database, subscribed to by UPS, FedEx, Amazon and others. Not just errors, but also lacking info. We get no kind of postal delivery, just our PO box. That means the only verified address is the PO itself. The PO knows this and attempts locally to address the problem have been ignored.

My Amazon story for the season. Ordered an Ingersoll Rand air dryer off of Amazon, sold by Northern Tool. Two weeks later no delivery so I checked the tracking number, supposedly UPS. Didn't work. Sent email question to Northern via Amazon. No answer. Called Northern up. After waiting through two phone queues, I got a person who said it was shipped not by Northern Tool but rather by Ingersoll Rand. And not by UPS, but by Roadrunner Freight. She gave me a number to call Roadrunner, to schedule delivery. I called them. Got transferred to four different people. Finally when the fourth person came on the line I said, wait, before you do anything, you are the fourth Roadrunner person I have talked to this morning, please do not transfer me away, I really need help here. So she said where are you, I said California, she said, why in the world did they transfer you to me, I am in South Carolina. Oh no! But then she took pity on me and instead of transferring me to another phone line, gave me the number of the real freight company that actually has the package. Roadrunner did not have the package. So I called the real freight company (Network Delivery Services) in Sacramento. The second person I spoke with there was able to schedule the delivery, for tomorrow. I am pretty sure it will work, she sounded like she knew what she was doing.

I forgot to say, the moral of the story is, the private freight companies are not necessarily any easier to deal with than USPS.

Yes, but private freight companies don't hold the authority to autonomously change your address, notify senders of false addresses, and return packages that are clearly destined for the correct address for absolutely no reason.

It took an amazing amount of persistence just to get our address in the "red book", which I still doubt has actually happened. This data is used by many websites for address verification. When it doesn't come up, that means the data has not been entered yet. We've had to call most every institution - banks, DMV, etc - to perform address changes. That takes a lot of time these days, because getting a human on the phone is virtually impossible without 10-15 minutes of automated phone prompts and hold time.

It's to the point now where I may have to drive up to the other address and ask them point blank how much of our mail they're getting. I even tried to have an internal investigation done to make sure the PO was in fact correcting the issue. It turned out to be a huge waste of time as there are no real checks and balances in the USPS.

Shipping freight can be frustrating, but at least someone is usually responsible, though finding that person can be difficult. With the USPS, every single employee is Teflon coated when it comes to responsibility. The impact of their incompetence has broad ranging affects.

Fair enough. That is awful and I hope some solution can be found.

Here we go again. Just got a note from usps, one of their "we couldn't deliver your package" notes. Reason? It says drive way blocked. wtf?!! There's nothing in my driveway!!! I think it took more time to fill out her form than to deliver it. Guess I get to ***** at the post master again.

On the news I heard Amazon is planning to get into the package delivery side of things to improve customer satisfaction and this includes buying a fleet of cargo planes...

Ordered a thermostat from amazon on December 7, shows it shipped on the 10th from a warehouse 100 miles from me, being so close I chose standard shipping, so it shipped by usps. Checking the tracking numbers they said for a week no tracking info was supplied by shipper, ok here it is now the 19th and no package. Checking the usps web site with a tracking number now it says it will arrive on the 23rd, thats like 16 days after I ordered it, heii i could have walked there and back during that time.

I've had a couple of incidents with Amazon where the order said delivery in X days but when I check on day X and see preparing for shipment, I call and complain, resulting in next day FedEx. I honestly think it's a ploy to get us to pay for the upgrade shipping vs regular prime. I'm not playing that game.

Went down to the po at 930. The slip they left said available after 8. They aren't even open till 10! Plus she had the street number wrong. Lady behind the counter (who has always been super helpful) said "well we are hiring right now". Just think, I wouldn't have a care in the world. Throw some mail in mail boxes ( doesn't matter which one goes where) write some unable to deliver slips for packages so I don't have to get out of the truck. I just might be due for a career change!

Amazon in talks with Boeing to lease aircraft to start their own cargo operations. They say UPS and the like, are restricting their growth.

Any of the USPS delivery methods are a pain in the a** for us.

The local post office closes at 4:30 PM and isn't open on Saturdays at all. Add to that the fact that the route driver only gets to our community boxes in the late afternoon and does NOT go the extra 1/3 mile up our paved private road to drop off packages that are too big for the box - PLUS, the window service doesn't want to check for a package unless you have the pink slip from the route driver ... even if the USPS website shows the package checked in at the local office.

USPS final delivery typically adds 2 days to the delivery wait! Adds insult to injury when the delivery status online says "delivery attempted" when you know the package never left the office...

Wow- have ordered several electronic parts from deep in mainland china and USPS has always had them here in under 13 days.

Well, It is Christmas season - ordered a gift for the grandaughter with prime last week ( UPS 2 day delivery) -supposed to be here yesterday (Friday) by 8 pm- today no go and doubt it will be delivered Sunday:laughing:
Yep- it is Christmas season- but for me it has always been UPS that misses the delivery date.
Mmm I see Amazon just (automatically) renewed my prime membership for $99 Overall Prime is a bargain imo... It more than pays for itself over the year in saved shipping charges.
