I am going over to Chappell in Milford (the home of B-B Chain) this morning. I'll stop over in the new building and see what B-B has in stock. Of course I'll expect my commission if you decide to buy.:D :D

Oh brother! You know I am a poor, impoverished, near-bankrupt, destitute, "early" retired old man who can't afford no dang commissions! :D

On the other hand, I appreciate you saving me the trip. :) Girlfriend says that it is way too cold for us to head North today. Gotta wait for that global warming thang to come back again! :) Where is Al Gore when you need him?

Just got back from Chappell. Maybe I just bought an L4330 w/cab, won't know until they get back to me on my trade-in.

Anyway, B-B has tons of chain, and ratchet binders and other chain stuff in stock at the Milford location, both American made and Chinese. Most of the American chain they had came from a factory in Kansas City and the B-B guy said he has visited there and saw the operation.

Prices are probably a little high but they got it and you can verify for yourself what you are getting. 3/8" grade 70 transport chain in bulk is $2.50 per ft. They have pre-made lengths of 12', 14', 16', 18', and 20' with hooks for a discounted price. They make them themselves and you are basically getting the hooks for free. For example a 20' length of chain with your choice of slip or grab hooks runs $54.

Ratchet binders for 3/8" grade 70 were $59 for USA made and $30 for Chinese.

It would be very worth the trip to Milford to talk to the B-B people. They know chain and what the users should buy (USA vs Chinese, grade vs grade) for what they are going to haul. It should be noted that they are chain distributors for many other companies in the New England area and they have outside sales people and mobile repair trucks to support their business.

I was also informed that the Brentwood store has a very limited selection of chain and accessories.

Great info Mad... Thank you! Prices seem very reasonable for American chain... in fact, below Chinese from Tractor Supply! Same on the binders. And no sales tax either! :D Did you happen to notice if they had any lever binders? Since I'm looking for four (4) binders, that's gonna be the single biggest money concern... plus I like the speed and convenience of levers.

Hope things work out on that L4330 cab tractor... but you should *never* go shopping for a tractor on a record cold day like today. You'll pay ANYTHING for a cab tractor with heat in this crazy weather! :D

Yes they have lever binders, plenty of them, USA and Chinese. If it has something to do with chain they got it in Milford. With the new expanded building their portion of the floor space has more than doubled.

Chappell has a couple dozen cab tractors on the lot including a couple of the new Grand L 40 series. Heat plus A/C is the only way to go.

Man, I didn't see any of that up there on my last visit. Then again, when the salesman saw the size of my puny wallet, he threw me out of there quick! :D

Heat and A/C??? I think you are going soft on us Mad. Next thing you know, you will be adding heat and A/C to that dozer!!!

Gotta build a cab for it first.:D

The new building at Chappell in Milford has more than doulbed the entire old building's floor space. At 2 stories they now have a new inside showroom upstairs and clothing, chainsaws etc, and B-B Chain downstairs. It's impressive.

Which location had the 3/8 inch? And do you happen to recall the price?

I am closer to the Brentwood shop, which is smaller, but has a pretty good selection.

Interesting since I have never been to Brentwood. The sales guy in Milford said that Brentwood had a very limited chain and accessory selection compared to Milford. The B-B chain store in Milford takes up about 1/3 of the floor space of the new building. There is a lot there.

Oh, I definitely was impressed with the new store when I was last up there. They were still building it out at the time... and I may have been the first actual customer to step foot in the new tractor display area on the second floor. In fact, I probably wasn't even supposed to be walking around in there at that time. I do recall that the first floor was a madhouse of activity that day with saws buzzing and hammering coming out of there like no tomorrow. No wonder I didn't find any chain that day. :)

I bought grade 70 chain at Grainger. You need a business card to open an account. Try Grainger.com. I attached pdf of binders page.

John

You might try McMaster-Carr McMaster-Carr or MSC Direct MSC Industrial Supply Co. Like Grainger, they will be pricey; but unlike snotty Grainger, McMaster and MSC are happy to take your money via credit card. I buy from McMaster and MSC and I have a self imposed $50 minimum order, which doesn't take me long to reach. I order $50 minimum as I find these two places to be such a valuable resource that I would hate to see them get like Grainger because of people sending in nickel & dime orders.
