I decided to shoot a deer one year with my wife's .243. Mainly because I had never shot one with that caliber and wanted to see how it would do. So a nice one presented itself at about 130 yard doing a slow walk. I tracked it in the scope, and squeezed one off. The animal fell instantly like a sack of potatoes on your kitchen floor!. I remember thinking "wow! this thing must be a real death ray!" Well when I got down there and took a look I saw that my hold was high and the bullet cut the animals spine. No wonder it dropped so fast. No tracking required though.
