Amsoil HD 5W40?

$33.00 per gallon plus tax, shipping and handling. That's for their lowest priced oil for diesels. On top of that, you're paying for oil analysis. Here's an alternative... Buy fair priced quality oil for half that price and change annually with no analysis. That's what I do, and have easy starting, smooth quiet running engines, and have never had an engine oil related repair or failure of any kind. You have to do what makes you comfortable, and there is no right or wrong answer to these oil debates. Some of us like to spend our money on oil, and others like to spend it on other things.

You might want to check you calculator it seems to be off. The real facts are $22.85. Hmmmmmm almost the same exact price as Roltella
(1) gallon That's for their lowest priced oil for diesels.

I thought the thread was about 5W40, but I'll show you prices of both from the Amsoil website.

Ya, but when people make false statements, then need to be answered...

"That's for their lowest priced oil for diesels."

Ok, so we're talking about 5W40 oil, and I said the lowest price Amsoil diesel oil, according to their site, is $33. In reality, the price is $33.60 for 5W40. If I want to change the grade to 10W30 for some reason, the price drops all the way down to $31.95. Nothing false about those numbers, coming straight from their site.

But does it cure frostbite and sciatica?
(Sorry, I couldn't resist. Watching an Amsoil thread reminds me of an old time patent medicine pitch man at the county fair)

Agree. I've been changing oil on dozens of vehicles, big delivery trucks, tractors, 60kw generators, vans, cars, hummers, mercedes, tractors and everything else that needs oil. I've never spent a dime on sending in samples and many vehicles have gone over 200k and most in dusty 125 degree desert temps. It's a waste of money.

What did it for me was I worked VERY, VERY hard to find an oil better than Amsoil. I was a 20 year skeptic.
I fought being a Amsoil fanboy with everything I had.
I went throught them all, Roya Purplr, Mobil 1, Penzoil, Motul, Castrol,
Redline and I'm sure a half dozen more.
I was convinced there was that one oil that was the best.
After using them all I always came back to Amsoil adn then after 20 years
I gave up and now will only buy Amsoil.

I'm glad the people that use Walmart cooking grease in their engines
and change their oil every 7 days works for them but I just don't have that kind of time.

I like to change and forget. When I get around to it in a year or do I'll change the oil
and when I send it in for testing they tell me I still have like in the oil and could keep using
it.

What funny over the years listening to all the nay sayers about oil over 40 years, some of the best ones.
(This was a HUGE things years ago)

NEVER put sythetic oil in a new engine the rings won't seat properly.
Then BMW, Corevette came from the factory with synthetics.

Next best, I don't buy Amsoil because it's multilevel marketing.
( like it was a cult) This lasted even today. It doesn't matter to anyone with a brain
to see that when you order DIRECT from Amsoil on the internet there are no
evil "middlemen"

I don't care what anyone uses I know what's worked for me. I'm not a dealers
I don't get paid by Amsoil, I'm a reluctant fanboy and proud of it.

But does it cure frostbite and sciatica?

:D And sometimes the pitch goes on long enough they forget what the truth is.

I think you'd be hard pressed to see any difference between top grade oils of the same weight, ran in the same engines and conditions. JMHO. As long as you don't buy the 7 Eleven house brand oil (the coffee probably has better wear characteristics), your rigs will probably rot out before the engine wears out.

But Cat Driver makes a good point: My Amsoil is sitting at the door when I order it. Anything that can keep me away from Walmart or a box store is highly sought after. Online ordering is easy and I can get all the stuff I need in one spot without to much surfing.

They also carry a wide range of lubes that meet a bunch of specs. The fuel efficient ATF comes to mind. I can get ATF that meets Dexron IV and the Honda spec in the same bottle. Haven't seen the Honda spec anywhere besides the dealers. Very convenient. And good quality. I've run that ATF in my Honda and Silverado and accumulated at least 150k miles between both vehicles. No transmission issues.

Where I disagree with Cat Driver: I have Amsoil 5w-40 in the Kubota and F450. 5w-30 Signature Series in the Silverado, and 0w-20 OEM in the Honda CRV. I have not noticed ANY performance difference between Amsoil, Rotella (except CRV) and Mobil 1 in equivalent weights.

I just looked and the Signature 5w40 is 34.90 a gallon. The HD 5w40 is 24.15. Of course, that is PC pricing. But I did a quick check and Delo 5w40 full synthetic at Wally World is $18.76.

I have no dog in this hunt since I primarily use Schaeffer oil for my various needs.

Hey,

Whatç—´ the opinion on Amsoil HD 5W40? Local Hardware store carries it. Can be had cheaper than Rotella T6 5W40.

AMSOIL Heavy-Duty Synthetic Diesel Oil 5W-4

To me, oil is like mouthwash. Whatever you want to pour in the crankcase is good so ling as it meets or exceeds the OEM's specifications. I'm not brand loyal at all. Whatever is on sale works just fine so long as you stick to the proper change interval. I mostly use Rotella 5-40 T6 because it can be had on sale pretty cheap and I use my drain oil to heat my shop anyway.

Like mouthwash, all the same. Leaves you breath smelling good, for a while at least.
