Another 8N Not Starting Question

Thank you for the recommendation. I will have to get one of those before I reassemble the engine to the transmission. I am sure it will help a lot.

Well finally heard back from the machine shop. They said the block is bad. Whoever welded it did not take the proper precautions and the main bear is out of alignment from the other two which caused the original crack that was "repaired" to become worse. They said my best bet was to replace it with a used block from ebay. He said the new ones are typically cheap quality and won't last.

Does anyone have any advice on buying a used front mounted dist. block?

I found one on ebay, but am wary of buying a bad one.

I don't recall why I thought it, but I always thought the side mount distributor was a better engine, wouldn't that bolt up?

Decided to look on craigslist and found this tractor for sale thats not too far from me. Figured for that price I could just trade pieces between the two worst case. Seems kind low price though if it runs that good.
