Is it just me or what? I've managed to break two teeth off of my backhoe bucket digging out a stump. I'll admit it , the first time I was losing daylight and I couldn't see that I probably had one outer tooth on a thick douglas fir root and I reefed too hard and it broke off. No problem, I figured it was luck of the draw and I replaced the tooth the next day. I decided that I can live with the stump, I'll saw some vertical slices and break it down to just below ground level and cover it with soil. Anyhow, after I managed to peel of the first section I set the bucket on the next cut and as I extended the bucket to get a better bite on it I broke the other outer tooth. This time I exerted moderate pressure. I realize that these teeth are hardened for trenching in rocky ground, not logging and my tractor isn't a 580. I'm just curious if any of you guys have encountered this situation or if I'm being abusive to my equipment.

Is the bucket a Kubota . My dealer says the buckets for my 4690 is same as ones used on Kubota Compact Excavators.
The B75 has about 500 lbs added digging force over the 4690. It's rating is very close to the Compact Excavators.
I have seen on TBN, where some owners have buckets from different manufactures.

plants; This is a guy that's broken teeth off 555's and 580's. Each time it was done digging out stumps. The worse part at those times was finding the tooth and a welder at the same time. Ofcourse, I'm also the guy that can stick a D8, and even have a stump stop said D8 in it's tracks. Thats where I learned about seatbelts. /forums/images/graemlins/blush.gif /forums/images/graemlins/smirk.gif

I never heard that the hoe wasn't designed to dig stumps. They seem to work pretty good for that. Seems like it would depend more on weld quality than you abusing the machine. Hope that makes you feel better. /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Breaking teeth of a backhoe bucket on a small tractor just does not seem right to me.

I would be asking my dealer to replace the bucket and to send it back to Kubota for evaluation if it were happening to me.

Somehow I just don't see how I could abuse the bucket on my BL4690 backhoe to knock teet off. Actually, I think I have tried a time or two with no luck... /forums/images/graemlins/blush.gif

The BH75 certainly is not a heavyweight hoe.

I don't know about the teeth on your bucket though. Are they the kind that have the teeth loose on the shanks, sort of crimped on? My bucket teeth are welded [don't know why I said welded, I knew they were bolted] on solid. Are you losing the whole tooth, with the shank being torn off the bucket?

Could you post a picture?

Henro ,
I can break the teeth off any bucket and any hoe I want digging out a stump . It is all in the "compounding of the hydraulics" . If you can get the teeth wedged into the stump , curl the bucket when the back of the bucket it is against something solid you will break the tooth or worst . I have done this on full size hoes and CUT's of all brands . Doesn't matter .

BigAl, I guess I will have to concede that you are a better man than I am... /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

If you lived near by, I'd invite you over to break a tooth off one of my buckets...just to learn something, if nothing else... /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif /forums/images/graemlins/blush.gif I really don't think these little backhoes are that strong. I've been wrong before though...

Hey, maybe you do live close...I'll have to check after posting this... /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif /forums/images/graemlins/shocked.gif

I too, have broken teeth of off of a compact hoe. I think the count is four now. I have been changing the shanks out for a different design as I break them off. No more broken shanks with the new style.

Here is a pic of what the teeth on my Kubota bucket look like. They seem to be pretty well made and pretty strong. I don't remember reading even once here at TBN about Kubota buckets loosing their teeth. That doesn't meant it has not been reported a dozen times, just don't remember hearing of it...

Plants4u has the newer Kubota backhoe, the BH75. Don't know if it shares the same bucket design, or if it has a new design of some kind.

Anyway, I thought a picture of what the buckets supplied with my BL4690 look like might be of interest. Both share the same tooth design, and both seem very durable, but I could just be guilty of babying my tools (no toys around this house if the wife is within a hundred yards! /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif )

I have never given second thought to prying, banging rocks to break them loose, or whatever...now you guys got me worrying... /forums/images/graemlins/blush.gif
