Henro,

I understand what you are saying, the two things you can't see from that photo is the gap on the other side of the tooth...it looks to be about about 3/8" of an inch. It comes nowhere close to fitting tight to the bucket edge. Without measuring though, the first bolt hole for the side teeth are is right at the bevel and for the middle tooth looks to be back almost a 1/2". I guess that is maybe designed to accept other bolt on teeth? Take a look at your bucket and let me know if you have the same.

I'll try to remember to get out there tomorrow afternoon and take a look at both of my buckets...and take a picture as well.
Wife has me tied up in the morning...no, not in the way you may be thinking... /forums/images/graemlins/blush.gif

Looking at the photos I noticed yours and Henro's teeth are bolted on. On my BH90 bucket they are welded shanks with replacable teeth. Unfortunately, with this weather my bucket is still new. So I can easily read what is on the shanks. The shanks are cast with "Hensley 230X156" on them. Just eyeballing your photos they look like they might work on your bucket too. As stated earlier by others I've seen nearly every kind of tooth broken at one point or another on the large construcion equipment. As I recall, nearly all of them were welded shanks too. So nothings bulletproof. I don't plan on breaking any but I wouldn't be the least suprised if I did. Actually the teeth on mine look like the strong link relative to the bucket weight. Most likely though, they aren't.

FWIW I used the Hensley 156 teeth on my bucket. They seemed kinda hefty for the 12" wide bucket when I was building it, but once I started using it they seemed to fit right in. I used top mount shanks as I wanted a smooth bottom to the bucket. They stick up a bit on the top, but don't seem to hamper dirt dumping out in any significant manner.

Based on this thread though I'm going to be a bit careful digging out stumps this summer as I start on the hedgerows at the farm. A.

Banjo, I see what you mean on top mount shanks. Good idea for a smooth bottom trench or footer ditch. Wish some of the excavating contractors that dug footers on projects I ran years back had one like that. Rolled my ankle a couple of times on the teeth depressions in footers while tying steel. Do my eyes deceive me?? /forums/images/graemlins/confused.gif Did you make the entire bucket or just do some rewelding on an existing one? Looks good either way but making it would be the better story. /forums/images/graemlins/cool.gif /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

Chris,
thanks for the comments, and glad to hear that I was on the right track with the teeth.

Yup I welded up the whole bucket. It goes with a backhoe that I also designed and built last spring/summer. I posted a few pictures in the photo area here, plus there are a whole pile in the Machine Builders Network photo album too here. Most of my pics start with "ADM".

So far the teeth have held up OK. I was digging out some big lumps of concrete clearing the way for a new front porch. I am going to start a bit more carefully when I start "weeding" the fence rows at our new farm this summer.

cheers, Andrew

Check out this bucket with broken teeth. Saw it at work the other day and took a couple of pics. Was suprised to
see that could happen myself.

Mark,

I think I would call that a broken bucket, rather than a broken tooth...

The tooth looks like it held up quite well... /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif Just that the bucket area where it was attached broke off...at least as far as what the picture seems to show.

That's a nice size bucket... /forums/images/graemlins/cool.gif
