Another foot of snow today

I spilled some ice out of the cooler at the beach this weekend, and pushed it around with my flipflop. Do I get to consider that as plowing?

NorthernMainer,

I was going to say that I had seen a thread with the Fischer Plow hooked on the front of a John Deere climbing a mountain, but I looked back and it was a thread you posted. Very impressive. I think you posted earlier that you don't get a lot of crabbing with the rig until you hit the big stuff by the blade being out front that far? I have a worksaver brand blade on the back of mine and it looks similar to what I can see on yours in the picture, only from the weight you listed for it, it's obviously wider than mine? I use the blade for nearly everything and then use the BX 2750 blower on front to toss it into the woods. It works great and so far, no chains. I liked someone's idea of using the wheel slippage as a good indication that it's time to back up and regroup before you get really mired, so I've resisted the temptation to mount them.

Remind me, are you still up on the County line and, if so, where? I can think of a place in Houlton that would probably be able to manufacture the Fisher plow attachment mechanism...just wondering if you are that far up? Dyer, retired. P.S. I push L.L. Bean whenever I can, I'm glad to see someone pushing Fisher Plows made out of Rockland, ha!

firemanpat2910,

Pushing ice out of a cooler with sandals probably won't pass as snow plowing, but it sure qualifies as envious. NorthernMainer is right, we've had bad winters, but this one just seems to be longer than most. Dyer, retired

You sound like you're looking at a mess tomorrow, but probably have a pretty good chance of it melting off fast?

Yep, the forecast is for 56. It was 33 about 7 a.m., the streets appeared to be clear except for the bridges and overpasses, and at least one news report said by 6:30 a.m. there had been about 3 dozen, of 6 times the normal number, of accidents in the Dallas/Ft. Worth area. The snow is gone off the trees, although we still have it on the roofs and lawns. I'll attach a couple of pictures. One is the Bradford Pear just outside the front door that was already blooming, and the other is that Bradford Pear on the right and a Live Oak on the left (the live oak keeps its leaves year round).

I think I picked up on a bit of a smile in one of NorthernMainer's pictures. He must either like his seat time or he is thinkin' of spring. :)

Bird,

Well, we predicted the accidents for sure, and people will never let us down in that regard. We've had 5 fatal snowmobile accidents in the last 3 days. You'll never guess, but speed and alcohol have much to do with many of them. Every once in awhile a car will hit a snowmobile that's trying to cross the road and I think one of the fatalities happened that way. Your snow pictures look like it was very heavy, wet snow. Any amount of that here makes it pretty miserable to move around. I included a picture from yesterday when I was clearing snow. Ever have that feeling that you're being watched? It had something it was working on, sat in the same spot picking at it for 2 hours, but I could not get any closer and this is with a 135 mm zoom. Unusual for us to see them in the daylight (well, I guess for that matter..at night either!) John

DreaminGreen,

Hard to believe, but it had been 3 weeks since I had been allowed back on the Kubota, so there was definitely a grin going. If I'm not clearing snow, mowing, flattening my driveway with the blade, I'm tinkering with the tractor....very good diversion from paying heating bills, ha! Dyer, retired

DreaminGreen,

My apologies, I read too quickly, but there is no denying the smile on NorthernMainer's face. Looks like a great rig for building snow mountains. As kids, we'd dig tunnels in those and make club igloos. I'm not sure, as a parent, if I'd dare let the kids do that anymore with the thought of one collapsing. Dyer, retired

smfcpacfp,

Make sure not to get too sunburned, ha! Thanks for thinking of us in the meantime though. What happens with that Kubota of yours and all the snow that drops while you're in the bath water scuba diving? Does it wait, or do you let someone else have fun with the rig in the meantime? Enjoy the diving....a week or two in that kind of weather sure makes the winter seem a lot shorter when you come back to it. Dyer, retired

My neighbor with his giant JD and twelve foot blower cleans it but not very well given the size of his rig.

It's good to have neighbors that are willing to do it. My neighbor has been great and can't wait to come clean the yard each snow storm, but he doesn't have a tractor of his own, so the novelty is still enticing. He would do it anyway, we worked together for many years and he's been a good friend, but I worry about wearing out the favors. He has a pretty big yard to do himself. I clean my yard a lot more when I'm doing it, but I know where all the obstacles are (now) and he doesn't, so I think he goes on the conservative side.

I wouldn't worry about the yard and just enjoy the scuba diving. I doubt we'll be in comfortable swimming water here until late June in the Lakes. When I was a kid, the day after ice out was good enough, but my heart would seize up now if I jumped in anything much colder than 70 degrees. John, retired
