Legally in PA, if you purchase something out of state and do not pay sales tax, you have to report it to the state and pay PA use tax.

I just researched that a bit, looks like there are five states that don't have "use" tax, Alaska, Delaware, Montana, New Hampshire and Oregon, It's difficult for any state to impose a use tax for anything that is not registered. The buyer is supposed to report the out of state sale to the state they live in.
Went to look at a John Deere 1025R today... Now I'm really going completely nuts trying to make a decision. Valley Ag has some pretty aggressive pricing on the 1025R TLB right now ($19,000). Add $2300 for a 60" MMM and the total is $21300 + tax. That's within $300 of the best price I've found for the BX23s w/ 60" deck. In general think the 1025R is a more capable machine than the BX23s.
I also took a look at my 'local' LS dealer last week (about an 1:15 away) to see an MT125 in person. Much nicer than I expected and seems like a really solid machine. Unfortunately his pricing wasn't quite as good ($17,950) as what I was hoping and 0% financing isn't available. That means that I'm really paying more like $20,000 with interest. I then still have the problem of no local dealer and being completely SOL if the existing dealer goes away or changes brands.
At this point I'm strongly leaning towards the 1025R. It's not perfect, but it seems like the best compromise. In practice it ends up being about $1300 more than the MT125, which seems fair given the JD branding. Ideally I'd really like a JD 2025R or Yanmar 424, but the pricing is above what I've set my budget at.

IMO the 1025R is a heck of a machine.. I had a 2305 TLB a few years back and it was a great machine, wish I didn't sell it..

That's pretty much where I am at the moment and I really don't want Green Fever. But if they can provide the 0% financing where no one else can, I may not have a choice.

One thing that you may want to consider, you mentioned a steep driveway on wet snow or packed snow chains will be needed.
Make sure your choice has clearance for them.

Good point, my GC1705 wears v-bar ice chains on all four, the 1025R will not have any issue with a set of chains..

Is the price they quoted the cash price, or the finance price. I know when I priced one from Valley Ag a few weeks back, the finance price was about $1,000 higher.
The price I got on the 1025r was $3,000 more than the BX2380, that is why we did not consider going with the JD.
I have bought equipment from Valley Ag in the past, and I will say they are top notched. The just could not get in the same ball park as Kubota.
I'm following your progress with great interest....Just curious what your issue was with "Kioti" ?
Also, if you consider an out of state purchase, there are some local dealers or either won't service your tractor, or they put you at the bottom of their list, because you did not purchase from them.
I was also surprised by your findings regarding JD and their pricing.

For most users, the BH is the most useless implement/$ imaginable. In the last 5 years I have spent less than $500 getting my work that needed a BH done by a local contractor. And if you have a neighbor with a BH, you can barter for a lot less.
Think hard about the investment in a BH vs getting a better tractor or other more useful implements.
BTW, I have seen small JD痴 with BH that have hardly been used. Something that is neat to have, may not always be a smart investment.

That is definitely a good price on the 1025R TLB. Is the MMM autoconnect PTO?

^^ Another point I've been pondering. My BH type tasks would be scattered out over months, maybe longer. Daily rentals and transportation would add up, but I'm not sure how much. Only other resident around here with one is a full sized Case which is too big for things I might need. I may be the one others come to for small tasks.

I will be honest and say the location nearest to us was less than aggressive when it came to pricing on my BX23S. I won't get into details, but it almost made me look at a different brand. Then I decided to email Neil, just to see if he could do better. He and I worked out a much better deal.
So far, there isn't anything I wanted to do that I couldn't do on my BX23S. Now I did have to get creative in my thinking to get some things done, as I was asking it to do more than it was designed for. However, it did get done and I am happy with it. I will also admit that since I have more experience on it, I can do things with it that I couldn't do before. Like everything, with experience come a better understanding on how to do something.
I really enjoyed my experience working with Neil. If you are thinking about a BX23S, you really should email him and see what he can do for you.

I really enjoy watching Neil's videos, but the salesmen we spoke to did not seem interested in making a sale. Plus they told me it would be an hourly charge to pick up and drop off the machine.

That's the price difference I expected to see between the BX23s and the 1025R TLB. FWIW, another local JD dealer gave me "end of season clearance" price of $20,866.
I was able to confirm with Valley Ag that the price this week for the Juniata fair is $19,000 for the 1025R TLB w/ 0% for 60 months.
Kioti was actually the first I considered. I've removed them from the running because the price offered by the local dealer was really high and I generally just didn't like the experience there compared to everywhere else.
I've thought pretty long and hard about it. It is a big pile of money, but I really do think I have enough work around my property to make use of it.

If you have dealers nearby, you should at least look at the Massey GC1710 or 1720 and the LS MT125.
Not aware of any Masey dealers locally. I strongly considered the LS MT125, but the dealer network is weak IMO. I only have one small LS dealer in my area who is still over an hour away. Other than that, LS does not seem to be offering very compelling financing. The LS MT125 seems like a great machine, though.

OK, I went back to see that you did look at the MT125. My price with the mower was $16,900 and estimated payback would be about $22,700 over 84 months.
My price for the 1025TLBM was $23,532 with tax and $21,450.00 without tax if I can claim exempt.
But I also got $17,600 for the Massey with a payback of about $21,400 over 84 months
And I gotta say, I kind of liked the Massey, but I need to compare the ratings a bit closer.
The LS was nice too, but I have the same situation in that the dealer is 70+ miles away and not where I would ever go for anything else.

Two years ago, I bought my BX25 with backhoe as a 90% of the time mower. I do like my BX and have acquired many implements for it. Two points I'll throw in for consideration. 1. The backhoe is better suited for spot digging and not so great for trench digging. If you only have one or two trenches and the time to do it, fine but otherwise, I'd rent a mini-ex for the trenches. 2. For the better weight needed, I should have gone with the B series.
