That did it. First time I tried, it didn't change. Then I realized there are two plugs (just like troutsqueezer said), unplugged them both for a while and everything is back to normal. Thanks for all the help!

You have what is called a "Fusion" system from Verizon. I had it for several years. Generally worked ok but from time to time would act up. Re-booting the router doesn't always work but re-booting the "Cantenna" can solve problems frequently. Unplug the power to the Cantenna for at least thirty seconds, and the router too. Then plug it all back in. This often forces the Cantenna to download and install any updates to its firmware. That just may do it. If it doesn't, what also works is to wait a week and see if the problem goes away. That has happened to me a number of times. When problems down at the cell tower or point of presence on the Internet backbone pop up, they won't tell you, you have to wait them out sometimes. Even if this procedure does not fix this particular problem, it will fix problems that are likely to occur at some future date. So keep it in mind next time fishyness happens.
Thx, will keep this in mind if/when Verizon offers that here in extreme WNY near Erie, PA....we're line of sight to a tower and terrestrial dsl here is pokey. Is performance of Fusion markedly better that 4g hotspot or mifi tied to a phone?

We had similar problems a while ago with our ISP... a line-of-site broadband wireless connection from our rooftop to a transmitter about 5 miles away.
Being rural, we don't have a lot of options, so when it started happening several times a week, and the service provider wasn't helping with a fix other than to cycle power on the broadband modem & my router, I plugged them both into a timer that cycled power off and on every morning at 6 AM. No more issues.
The ISP has since upgraded equipment at both ends, so regular power cycling is no longer required.

I previously had the Verizon MiFi. It was good, but speed varied quite a bit. The Homefusion been consistently good, and doubled the limit for only another $10. Seems to have been a good upgrade.

The Fusion is 4G. Connects to the nearest cell tower just like your phone. The Cantenna has a signal amplifier in it so it worked much better than the mi-fi I had before it. I have switched over to a local wireless provider now and it is extremely reliable with no data cap. Love it. You do need line-of-sight for it.
