Any One Else Eat Food Grade Diatomaceous Earth?

I started eating food grade DE about 6 or 7 years ago. After a short time I noticed 5 things.

1. Fingernails got stronger.
2. Joint pain in left knee when going downstairs, went away.
3. Swelling in lower legs above socks, went away.
4. Hair on head got thicker.
5. Age spots on the back of hands went away.

As with everything it works different in different people.

I'm not one to doubt that of which I know nothing about... But - I'm wondering if the diatomaceous earth (DE) is the thing that's making you feel so much better. Or is it the water intake? Perhaps both are helping, I sure don't know.

What I do know is that some years ago when making water treating chemicals for sale to the refining industry we added DE to the mix. Back then it was a nickel a pound. I see that the price has gone up substantially now. The price of 'dirt' has definitely increased. Actually its not 'dirt', it's ground up sea shells.

However, your testimony makes me ponder the thought of giving it a try. Not that I have any of the ailments that it resolved for you, but there's no telling what else it might do. Heck, it might change my physical symptoms of a 79 y/o to something back in the 20's or 30's! If so, the $0.05/pound, ooooppps - $1.50/pound would be well worth the try. That is, if it doesn't react to my old bones like it does to insects.

Ha, ha - Goeduck. Out in the old garden there is a 4" to 6" thick layer of pure Mt St Helen's ash. It's down about 3" to 4" below the existing ground level. The old gigantic Ponderosa pines around the garden must have formed some type of "vortex" and caused a heavy deposition right there. The remainder of the property has around 1" to 1 1/2". In the "bare" spots where the bedrock is at the surface - so is the ash. Most any wind over ten MPH in the summer and I have a mini- Mt St Helen's all over again.

Thread revival three years later and I am still alive and functioning at 82! :)

Just ordered 10 pounds of food grade Diatomaceous Earth to replenish my dwindling supply.

While I am very glad you are still alive and functioning, as I really enjoy your posts, no, I won't eat it. 😬

:p

Are there any sources at all to prove the claims? This site says they are proven but does not provide any facts, studies or sources to support their claims.
Site does not provide a link that copies. That's scary.

OP glad it works for you. Any listed side effects besides the lung problems? Are you taking it in capsule form where you have no possibility of breathing it?

I have had no side effects. Not taking capsules, get very little dust when putting it into the water and stirring it in.

Years ago my sister talked my wife and I into trying this. We did it for a very short period and then my wife read something about it causing tears in intestinal walls something like that and we stopped. However, now the way I feel about the medical and especially the pharmacy world, That could have all been propaganda to discourage people from using it as a natural supplement (Can you say Ivermectin?)

I know when I was pulling weeds for feeding my chickens, I would pull them up with dirt on the roots and all and throw them in the pen... before they were allowed out of the pen. They would eat the dirt ball every time, the entire thing. It was like they were deriving nutrients from it. So yeah, I believe natural benefits from a variety of sources.

I'm trying to understand the rationale or proposed mechanism for this.
DE is used for its sharp edges to scrape off the protective wax layer of arthropods with an exoskeleton and make them more susceptible to disease, or as a filter medium. "Food grade" DE is used to filter foodstuffs and if a bit gets into the food it's inert in small quantities. It's not well absorbed which is good because if it was in an absorbable form silicates and aluminum are both toxic in quantity. It's well documented that DE dust tears up the mucous membranes of the nose/throat/lungs.
My question is why would you deliberately ingest something that will scour, tear up, and irritate your GI tract when it's not absorbed by your body?
We have something safe that does the same thing without tearing things up: it's called fiber and it's cheap and readily available.

In addition it looks like all the types of "food grade" DE contain arsenic, lead, and cadmium:

More power to you if it's working for you, but I'm afraid I'll pass on that one

It did not scour, tear up, and irritate my GI tract. And the body will only absorb a tiny amount of silica and excrete the rest in urine.

The first post shows the 5 reasons that I took Food Grade DE:
1. Fingernails got stronger.
2. Joint pain in left knee when going downstairs, went away.
3. Swelling in lower legs above socks, went away.
4. Hair on head got thicker.
5. Age spots on the back of hands went away.

I have been ingesting it for ten years now and still seeing and feeling the benefits.

A former girlfriend worked at a nutrition supplement store. Every week some new fad would come along. One of those was D-Earth which she started sprinkling on our food, saying it would rid us of parasites. As I recall, it was rather expensive. My doc at the time, said it was a waste of money.
