You guys who had oil leaks on your 6.0 where was the leak? I changed the oil for the 15k interval and noticed a oil leak on the back side of the oil pan but I can't see where the leak is coming from

Mine have all needed dye to find the source. I had a couple different locals all gasket related. All were repaired under warranty by the dealer so couldn't tell you the exact local.

Thanks, I made an appointment to drop the truck off at the dealer on Monday. Hopefully it will be a simple repair.

The dealer where I took my truck used some dye and a black light to locate any leaks. Most were around the pan gasket but one was some gasket around the starter motor. All has been fine since I got it back from the dealer.

What kind of mileage do you guys get from your trucks? Mine is a crew cab 4X4 dually with the 4:30 gears and the factory Tow Boss package. It tows great, and the integrated tow command works better than any add on trailer brake system I've used, but I wonder if it's costing me much on the fuel economy with that gearing?

With my driving I average around 16 mpg with my 6.0 which is an extended cab, 4x4 with 3.73

I have the Tow Boss + 4:30 gearing on a dually, crew cab, king ranch 4x4.

Highway, unloaded at 72mph - 15 mpg.

Mixed driving, unloaded: 14.1

Loaded with a Bigfoot 10.6 camper: 11 - 13.5 depending upon terrain, wind and how fast I drive.

Heavily loaded: 2880 lb trailer with - JD 3320, 300cx loader, rock bucket, rear blade, box blade, and 600 pounds of material in the bed: 11.3 @ 72mph.

For reference, the same camper on a SRW, crew cab, 4x4 with the 3:73 gearing would get 9.6 -13 depending upon driving conditions. With a heavy load, the truck with the 4:30 gears gets consistently better mileage.

However, unloaded the SRW 3:73 combination would get:

Up to 22 mpg at 55mph.

Average 16.6 mpg at 75mph

Average about 15.2 mpg in mixed driving.

The guy I sold the truck to put a different turbine in it, changed the exhaust system, and chipped it. In "mileage mode" he's averaging about 18.5 mpg in mixed driving and is getting about 21mpg at 75mph, unloaded on the highway.

Just to contribute to the thread, Ford and International are in quite a dispute over the 6.0 warrantee claims and it may result in Ford building diesels in house again using their euro diesel knowledge.

From what I'm reading, it looks like Ford's next suitor will be Peugot. Peugot already builds a smaller diesel for Ford and there's rumor of a large displacement V-8.

Sorry CAT fans. :D

No, no, and...no....Ford and Peugot have a joint venture in a new diesel engine manufacturing facility in Dagenham, England. Ford needed a new facility to build European diesel engines for their automobiles and for Range Rover (3.6 liter) - as did Peugot. In order for both manufacturers to save money, they shared the cost of the new facility. It is both a design center and manufacturing plant. In fact, Ford builds the diesels for Peugot / Citroen

The 3.6 liter Rover engine has gotten rave reviews to date - and it replaced one built by BMW.

The new Ford diesel prototypes have already been shown for the F150. It is a 4.4 liter, turbo charged - expected to have 360hp and 520 ft/lbs of torque.

The motor has been designed by Ford and built by Ford in the Dagenham plant. Here's a photo of it: Ford F150 Diesel - 2009 2010 Ford 4.4L V8 Diesel Engine.

They are also going to build the diesel for the larger trucks (F250 and F350) because of their dissatisfaction with the Navistar motors. However, the Ford / Navistar contract runs through 2010, so you won't see a new diesel in the larger trucks until 2011.

Ford has been testing a 6.7 liter engine based upon the 3.6/4.4 liter design. There have been "test mules" sighted in Michigan, and Arizona. The test mules have a different hood and dual exhausts exiting on the passenger side at the back of the rear wheel.

And - here's a photo: PickupTruck.com - Ford's New Scorpion Diesel V8 Spied

Now, the real question is - where will Ford manufacture the new motors for the North American market as importing them from England will not be cost effective.

One also has to wonder why the North American market doesn't see thing like this:

Engines from Ford's Dagenham Diesel Centre power the Ford Focus ECOnetic, which is capable of a segment-leading 65.7mpg.

If you'd like more information on the Ford Dagenham Diesel Centre of Excellence you can find it here:

And you can even see a photo of it here: Automotive Engineering reports on Ford's Dagenham Diesel Center - AutoblogGreen

I guess you must not read things very carefully....
