Thanks Adirondak,
I think you hit the wrong key there on the 16?? It must be 4'x8'x16". Anyhow, we burned wood (Ponderosa pine) here when we first moved here. That was thirty two years ago and when I was a lot younger and was up to handling the big pine trees. Now its electric heat and sell off the trees to loggers.

Yup I meant 16"...darn these old eyes and fat fingers...lol

Some examples

Canada:
For example, some sellers use illegal terms such as "face cord", "stove cord", "apartment cord", "furnace cord" and "short cord" to refer to a quantity smaller than 128 cubic feet when selling bulk firewood. These and other similarly worded terms frequently lead to confusion about the actual quantity of firewood being sold.

Virginia:
Virginia law prohibits the use of terms such as "face cord," "rack," or "pile" when advertising, offering for sale, or selling wood for use as fuel. If the buyer visually inspects a truckload of wood and agrees to a selling price for that load, the term "truckload" may be used. A standard pick-up truck usually holds about two-thirds of a cord.

Firewood must be sold by a measured "CORD", or fractional part/multiple of a measured cord.

One Cord is 128 Cubic Feet (Length X Width X Height)

A firewood seller may not sell or use terms such as truck-load, rack, pile, or face cord.

I looked at the Wallenstein site and the log trailer with highway pkg(LT60H) will carry 11,500 pounds. I have no idea how many logs that is but the pictures show them loading logs about 16 feet long. I know one thing though - I would NOT be pulling a trailer weighing that amount with my 4WD ATV. That needs a pickup or tractor. Man, you get that much weight going and it will take a month of Sundays to stop it with an ATV. I moved large logs once with a jeep & small but extremely HD trailer to build a log cabin. I was MUCH younger, very naive and extremely lucky.

tis true. the most accepted form of selling fire wood is the "cord" measurement. or a stack 4' high by 8' long by 4 feet deep, or 3 rows stacked 4 high 8 long cut to 16" (inches) in length. a true "face" cord is cut 16" long blocks then split and stacked 4x8. 3 face cord is equal to 1 full cord if done correctly. where i am from the term face cord is so often used for a selling measurment that if i starting selling it as "full" cords, most my customers and the folks who live around here would be confused, so i stick with the common language in my area.

as for the trailers, i am leaning towards the smaller one with surge brakes and highway package. if my measurements are correct (haven't seen trailer in person yet), i think if i cut my logs to 10.6 ft, i could fit approx 2 face cord in logs on that trailer. that would be enough to justify the smaller trailer. also it is small enough to go into woods and with the surge brakes i am hoping use it behind my kubota rtv. may not get a full load this way, but will help keep the mud off the logs. then use the truck/trailer to transport logs back home to use grapple to hover logs to very easily block up to 16" in length. i am growing very tired of the bending down to block up logs and then throw blocks to pile to get them out of my way for the next logs to block up. the log trailer seems to solve a lot of these problems. i am just searching out there if all my ideas will work in the "real" world with this trailer and my set up. keep the replies comming.
