The Anna's overwinter here. I don't know about the PNW.

We have them in the PNW throughout the year and somehow they survive 10*F (-12*C) temperature with winds 60 mph, which happens very rarely.

Not here. It's mid-winter here.

I hope they don't show up here in mid-Georgia right now. Spouse would be out there with space heaters for those pretty little guys. We expect the first to show up around mid-March.

Ascending the first camel hump now. We have year-round Annas Hummingbirds which account for the neck, between the camel humps and the rump level (base level of activity). Our first hump is due to Rufous Hummingbirds going from as south as Mexico up to as north as Alaska for the summer. Second camel hump is the Rufous returning from Alaska and headed to Mexico and California. I was shocked the feeders were near empty today since I just filled them. Hungry little travelers. Herring are spawning in mass this year and sea lions have taken over the place feeding. I forgot about the hummers.

Here is the 2025 Hummingbird Migration Map along with the 2024 map. Sometimes these maps can fail and if I catch it I'll post another. You have to scroll down a little on the site for the 2025 map.

On a different map*** the was an apparent sighting in Kentucky already (2/25/2025!). It's early but I have heard of such early sightings before.

Remember that birds don't always come to feeders in early spring because they are busy eating bugs, building neats and having babies. Don't lose faith but keep putting out the feeders and changing the food every few days. Persistence pays off.

***Here is the other map mentioned. You have to scroll around and navigate ads.

I have exactly the same problem but it is exacerbated by the skylights in the roof of the garage.
We ended up putting in a skylight on the house yawning because overtime, the water coming though that opening, built there for sunlight coming into the house I guess) when it was raining was killing the T-1-11 siding hitting brick at the base of the house).

What ended up happening though when we put in that skylight is the hummingbirds would get caught by the glass (the depth was only about 18" to the skylight or so, but they would never come down to get to the opening under the yawning to get out).

Really becoming a PITA getting the ladder out and using a towel to catch them.

One died on the wife because if they got caught there during the day in the NC summer, guess heat exhaustion, and after that, we were trying out best to get them out of under the skylight.

Put up this screening under the skylight and not one hummingbird had to be rescued after that.

Don't know if I posted this pic, if I did apologies, but from last year I believe.

Thank you for that idea! I'll have to put that up in my garage and see how it works!
