Remember to get a feeder out a little early to catch the scouts looking for food. Also watch for returning birds that look familiar or know the ropes around your yard. As mentioned earlier in this thread, we had returning birds with unique looks we remembered from the last year plus some birds that knew we had a feeder in an alcove and not easily seen. That had to be returning birds.
There's a chart that shows when birds are first seen in the US and a dot put on the map. You can easily judge when they get close to your location. Can't seem to find that map this year.

Yep always boil our well water and try to change out regularly. Our hummers are picky and it is easy to tell when they aren't happy with the nectar... they stop feeding but continue to hang around looking for other sources. BTW... ours are around all year long.

This would explain my increased activity, the Rufous birds are arriving from Mexico. This site says by March 20 they hit Canada. We are not that far from Canada so they must be a week or two early this year.
