I was upset also when GM dropped their medium duty's. My last GMC was an 06 4500 w LLY Duramax and Allison w PTO. It was built in Flint and had a Monroe flatbed.

That sure is a beauty, looks like she's kept clean.

Here is my little toy: It to was built in Flint, not sure where you live but Flint is about 15 minutes from my house so it was nice to give back to my town. Pretty much everything you see on it was decked out by Monroe though - from the pick up bed to the smokestacks to the bigger tires on the 4x4, chrome grill, chrome assist steps, smoke stacks, and even the air horns. I love that truck - it's about the only thing that I own that I would never consider selling. Mines and 06 DMax ally tranny to by the way.

Reading all these comments, it seems like a lot of folks pick out a truck the same way they shop for a wife.
I wonder if that also holds true for compact tractors?

Big boobs & a Tight .........? :)

I just want a full size bed in my next truck. You know, so I use it like a truck ? Maybe I oughta rethink this....:)

I do have a L3400? Does that have any fruardian implications???

I like it. Aerodynamic for sure. I like the color, too. I used to like my Fords but they are becoming so heavy that I'm losing carrying capacity and the trucks aren't holding up any better than my lighter dodge did.

Curious to see what GM puts out.

Very nice. The wagon kicks a**. I sure do miss mine. When I moved to TX (to work at Arlington GM Assembly) I had Laredo Conversions - Trucks do the interior w leather, console, power rear seat/bed, and Kelderman air ride suspension. The seat frames had air ride from the factory. Other mods were B&M Quick Hitch, Eclipes Navigation, and rear camera. The ONLY complaint I had with the truck was the crappy, old style rectangle headlights. Laredo had a headlight upgrade kit that I should have got.

Thanks, I thought about some of the Laredo conversions but never had them done. I don't use it a whole lot so the console wasn't a must but if I was using it more I would have sure had it done. What's so amazing to me is how much room there is in those trucks. I got the fold down back seat in my so with the push of a button you can convert the back row into a nice bed if your traveling - I've never had to use it but it is pretty neat. As for the lights, they are useless, I keep mine on bright the entire time because they are worse on bright than my Yukon is on dim. You can't see anything. I do love everything else though.

On the Chevy boards there is a lot of talk about the AFM Oil Consumption on the 5.3 GM engines.

(it starts "consuming" oil after about 40K miles. The AFM is the Automatic Fuel Management and it supposedly "shuts down" or disables 4 cylinders at certain light loads on the highway. [not 100% sure of the exacts, but talk is talk])

Also sounds like GM may still not have admitted to the problem but are fixing some here and there with a rather big fix and the customer is ending up with paying some of it

Have they found a real fix for that yet?

I see the new Chevs & GMs have something called:

"6.0L Variable Valve Timing V8 engine"

To me, that just rings of same thing - different name

I bring it up because I am in the market for a new (er) 3/4 ton pick up. (I actually want new, but may go for lightly used)

I have always been a GM guy, but now I am not too sure.

Ford's Super Duty F250's sure look nice.

And if I lay down that kind of cash this time without financing, I want it to last.

I gave up on shopping for a wife, I bought my Bobcat instead

:D

Variable valve timing is not the same as shutting off some cylinders. Engines with multiple cam shafts or other techniques for driving the valve train differently based on computer input or change in shaft speed do this. Some specialty high performance race cars have experimented with powering the valves using air, hydraulics, or electricity instead of mechanical force from a cam shaft. There are some good Wikipedia articles about this with animating pictures.

In answer to the original question no.

My family aunts, uncles, dad, grand parents etc. We drove Ford trucks and GM cars most of our lives. Some GMC trucks were in the mix too.

In the late 1990s I bought a new GM car and it was a huge pile of crap. Everything from paint falling off, to electrical issues. I took about a $18000.00 bath on the car, had it only a few years and it had so many issues I couldn't get much of a trade in on it. Dealer wouldn't help, GM's help line actually admitted the dealer had several complaints about lack of coverage. Yet they wouldn't help me with anything. Wouldn't send me to another dealer or send anyone to look at the car. Dealer said the car looked like it had been under water was why the electrical issues and the paint was falling off because I must have been driving on dirt roads. Both complete lies, car was never under water and only driven on pavement.

My aunt and uncle had issues right about the same time with their car, GM product, but different badging. Problems were never fully resolved, car would just not start. Could never figure out why, and it would leave them stranded. Dad bought one more car, 2003 buick and had issues and again, no real help.

Basically no one in my family will ever buy a GM product again. GM makes a good product, till you have an issue, then I don't know. I know others say they have great customer service, that has not been my experience.

The bailouts didn't help our opinion of them any.
