I'm really excited about the new line of GM trucks to be built this following year. Alot of speculations and rumors floating around. I'm looking foward to seeing the production models rolling off the assembly line. 2013 Chevy Silverado

That thing is hideous.

My Dad's was the "Heavy Half" ton. It was light on the smog stuff. Ran good, just couldn't pass a gas station, and had those tanks on both sides; always a hassle at the gas station. It wasn't a bad engine, just not as great as everyone makes the "mouse" motor to be.

Honestly, for a truck, I'd rather have the truck motor for the bottom end torque build, compared to the Corvette high rpm motor. Unless I was going to get groceries; sure it would get there faster :D

Just my experience, but the 350 GM just never seemed up to par with a Mopar 340 for sure, a 360, or a Ford 351. Even Car Craft and Hot Rod did a 350 Chevy Vs 360 Mopar build a few years back. The Mopar surprised them by being a little less expensive to build and made more power, for comparable test builds in a healthy street motor(comparable pistons, am, carb, intake, balance ect)

I don't think anyone had a good motor in 1976. My dad bought a GMC 4x4 new in '76...By 1980, we put a 1970 350 out of a Corvette in it..That took care of the problem. :D

The original 350 ran fine, just didn't have any power due to new gov't regs, there weren't any emissions on it so we had options

I gave up on GMC for two reasons.

1) Two bad trucks in a row, 2004 Duramax, 2005 Duramax.
2) Obama Motors.

Not a GM fan, so I wouldn't buy it period. As for the looks, this is the first example of an aero pickup that the Gummint is mandating to get better fuel mileage. How well it works remains to be seen; but you can bet that in the Class 8 truck world the classic Peterbilt, et al conventional style of truck will be going away with exceptions where aerodynamics is not a big factor due to truck usage. If the aero pickup proves successful, expect more Jellybean pickups in our future.

Doesn't look like a truck...
More of a modified hybrid SUV crossover what cha ma call it...
It is a concept vehicle...
Thank goodness...

Mabe the new bodtstyle will lean toward the GMC All-Terrain concept we saw earlier this year. Does this look better to everyone? GMC Sierra All Terrain HD Concept being considered for production Like I said in an earlier post, these are just concepts. GM has not released final production specs to any of us at the assembly plant. All I know is we have several weeks of scheduled down time this comming year for retooling. This is for sure going to be a major overhaul on bodystyle. I think we will see a more aerodynamic truck from GM for better gas milage.

I was stuck in MO for a month a few summers ago, and got to know some of the Dodge Truck plant workers.

I have never met so many pissed off workers in my life.

They told me some stories you wouldnt beleive if I did tell you what they were

I was working at the GM plant in MO when they closed the Truck/Minivan Chrysler assembly plant. That was a huge facility. Thousands of people were unemployed in the area when that plant closed. It was over twice the size of the GM plant. The truck went to Canada and the minivan went to Mexico (it could be vice versa). Around the same time InBev bought out Budweiser. They laid off several hundred workers. It was a huge blow to the St. Louis area.

Just to add a few points (Topkicker already covered some of these):

-- That truck is NOT the new Chevy. That was a concept vehicle from 2003 called the Cheyenne. There are no pictures available yet of the upcoming models (well there is one here but it's covered with camoflauge: http://news.pickuptrucks.com/2011/12/another-look-full-view-of-the-2014-silverado.html#more ).
-- The new trucks will actually be 2014 models (available in fall of 2013).
-- The Chevy and GMC versions will look much different from each other.
-- There is also a rumor that GM may debut one of them at the Detroit Auto Show next month.

I really hope GM was smart enough to offer a 1500 Crew Cab with a 6.5-foot bed this time. Ford has the market cornered on that configuration.

Reading all these comments, it seems like a lot of folks pick out a truck the same way they shop for a wife.
I wonder if that also holds true for compact tractors?
