First time in years it has frosted here in NC mountains in my area in September. Many nights of October have been in mid 30s.

The wolliebears, a type of local caterpillar, have a wide band of red on them. That means a mild winter.

I wouldn't hold much stock in that. I've seen them crawling around in the winter... that's how little they know about predicting weather.

There are very few pine cones on the trees...... a mild Winter.

They issue new ones each month and they can change quite a bit each time as new data is pumped in.

Usually start our seasonal precipitation by now. It continues till march of the following year. Still in the 80s and a bit higher.
