Buying Advice Anyone else thinking about buying a new 1026r?

Wow. All that redesigning and they still let a woman design the Transmission Range Shift Lever to make geldings out of us. With that wide knob, it looks more painful than the 2305's PTO selector. :(

You noticed that too. When I seen the picture for the first time I said to myself -- OUCH.

I’m new to TractorByNet and found this thread very interesting. I have a JD 5525 that I use around the ranch but need something smaller for mowing and gardening. I was looking at information on the X575 when I stumbled on this thread. Now I need more information so I’m headed to talk to local dealer to see what I can find.

liked what I first heard about 1026R, had looked at a 2520, but read many complaints about two speed rear, like the drive over deck on 1026R best and thought I heard they went to an oil cooler, better than a fan on 2305 and Kubota BX2660.
Problem gets back to two speed rear end, maybe I will go back and look at Kubota B2620/ 2920, three speed rear but no drive over deck.
Hooking up deck is why I originally sold my first Kubota, so I really like the 1026R feature, but why the two speed rear?

Why not the two speed rear? I suspect that will cover most folks bases just fine.

Architect -

The B2320/2620/2920 do have drive over decks, as well as the 3-speed range. They still require that you manually connect the PTO shaft, which is a tough reach on a 60" mower deck and wide turf tires.

For what it's worth, I just traded out of a B2920 and back into a Deere - the 2320 - because I put a lot more value in the ergonomics than the 3-speed tranny. i.e. electric PTO, foot pedal configuration, etc.

I purchased a 2305 a few years back and ended up with "buyer's regret" when I began tackling a bigger project with the front end loader and box blade. The 2305 will get it done, but with less precision and a lot more time spent doing it. Position control is quite helpful when doing grading work. The full category 1 hitch makes switching implements a bit easier as well. The 1026r is pretty much the same capability level as the 2305 that it's replacing. For not too much more money you can move up to the 2320 or 2520, and have a more capable machine that you hopefully won't outgrow very quickly. Plus they have a special incentive program whereby you can save $1000.00 on the 2320 or 2520 if you purchase the tractor with two implements.

Isn't the 1026r 26HP? Doesn't it have level control?

So you are warning peoiple not to buy the1026r because the 2305 let you down?

Does the 2x20 auto connect a MMM? No? I understand the 1026r does autoconnect for the MMM.

It seems your opinion of the 1026r is premature.

He is saying buy a bigger tractor...He wish he had in the first plsce. I am not convinced on the new 1000 series yet.

autoconnect is over rated. These shaft-driven mowers hookup pretty easy as it is, and come off even easier. It's a marketing gimmick, mostly.

Yep, the 1026r appears to be an excellent lawn mower, but too light for real tractor work. Much like many of the smaller BXs.

If you want/need a real tractor, you gotta go bigger.

Pretty much in agreement. We have a John Deere 2305 and BX2660 and if any "real tractor work" is needed, we pull out something else. We do find a lot of work for them though in places our bigger stuff won't fit.

I am very curious to see the new JD models.

If they ever start selling them and if I get the chance to buy one it will be primarilly because of the Auto-connect MMM. I think getting down on a 3 point stance - head, shoulder and one knee - to connect the driveshaft is a real pain in the back.

I till a lot of gardens in the spring for friends. I take off and put on the MMM and tiller twice a week or more. If the grass is growing fast and the gardens are dry they get swaped out even more often.

The 1026r is a subcompact tractor. No one is disputing that a compact tractor is more capable for professional work. And is also more expensive. I have a very capable 3520 for hard work and the 1026r appears to fit with my current equipment needs.

Let's not knock it before it is even in anyone's hands.

Autoconnect looks pretty nifty to me.

If the 1026r isn't released until midsummer, it's not going to do me any good this upcoming season.

It might be a better move for me to get a backhoe for the 3520 and trade in the RMM for an autoconnect MMM and get a zero turn mower.

I think thats been offered on the 3000's for awhile, never seen anyone buy it though.

Personaly, I hate drive over decks. For me they are more of a headache, but everyone has their preference.

Maybe there is a difference in drive over between Kubota and John Deere, I too was underwhelmed by the ones on Kubota, but I am not familiar with the ones on John Deere.
