Sure they do. Drive a mile in my shoes and see what its’ like to have your vehicle inspected in a routine roadside stop.
They don’t do that in the west.

I lived in Arizona for 45 years. Never heard of such a thing. But I didn’t live in a metro area.

Also, believe that California has/is making it illegal to operate pre-emissions commercial vehicles.

Seems to me that is a violation of interstate commerce clause. I can see not titling/licensing a vehicle in CA, but if I own/operate a federally legal commercial vehicle & have a load to pick up or drop off in CA, they shouldn't be able to prevent it. Unlikely the current (federal) Administration would push the issue, but it seems like a "no brainer" that the Supreme Court would strike that down. Maybe the supply chain & port backlogs would clear quicker if they simply let any trucker operate.

If the factory warranty was expired I wouldn't hesitate if I was having problems and I would keep my mouth shut and no one would be the wiser, if you tell it some do-gooder will likely rat you out.
Prisons are full of those that talked too much.

To the op who started the thread, yes you can do a "delete". The tractors concerned had the dpf deleted and the rest of the engine setting left standard. There have been zero problems as a result.
Re axelpops, post 54, As of this year or last year,it is illegal to operated a pre2010 emissions truck BASED in California, BUT there is a CUTOFF date for OUT OF STATE trucks as well. I don't know when that starts.
