Anyone ever regretted buying a HST?

And the next big thing to remember is that the hydro whine on some tractors is negligible. Near non existent. Like my Kioti for instance. The only time you hear any hydro whine is when you are in too high of a range, causing the hydro to work too hard. Like going up a steep hill in HI range. Otherwise no hydro whine.

My little tractor only has two gears and I agree, the whine is bad in high range, but I only use that for transport and mowing on the level (and Then I'm at max revs to keep the PTO at 540).

James: have you found that different fluids whine less? I'm 75hrs away from fluid change. Last time I went with Traveller fluid from TSC. Now that I'm in farm country more fluids will be readily available.

I have two gear tractors with shuttle shift, I love them and bought them specifically because they were geared. My little B2320 came as HST only, and I do not like it. In fact, I'm looking for a reason to get rid of it. I'll call BS on hst being quicker on the fel and grading work, I doubt most guys could do what I do with my MX as fast and as well. Shoot, I wish my RTV was geared...

On every discussion about this, I find that I am in the vast minority. I wasn't even considering an HST when I was shopping last year; I had been pricing tractors for a couple of years and had settled on a 3301 DT but the night before I pulled the trigger I noticed that it didn't have live PTO. I was months past the point where I needed something, and came across a slightly used 3301 HST that same night, so the next day I bought it. I've put about 140 hours on it so far, mostly plowing snow, cutting wood, tilling, and running my single bottom plow. A year ago I thought that I was shopping for my last tractor; now I'm already trying to decide what I will downgrade to. The HST whine is obnoxious and I hate it for loader work especially plowing snow; I feel like I'm moving in slow motion. With the shuttle shift and foot accelerator on my tired old 275 it was a much smoother operation overall to run it.
Notice though that my tractors were in the 27&33 HP though, considerably smaller than what you are looking at.

about the whine. My ears ring so loud from my years of racing, I hardly notice any whine

The whine is the only downside I’ve come across on some models. When I was looking to buy 2 years ago I tried Mahindra, Branson, LS and Kioti - all open station. The Mahindra was by far the loudest whiner, the Branson and LS were a tad quieter and the Kioti was negligible.

I ended up with an LS and went with the cab to quiet the whine a bit, but more to survive the Texas summer heat... Had I went with the open station option, I’m sure it would be a regret.

My 45 hp JD has a little whine when I run in hi gear idling up a slight grade, cold and backing out of the barn. I try not to do that but get the RPMs up a little more.

I have a diesel CUT as most are I assume and when the RPMs are up to 2000 for light working, the diesel makes noise enough to overshadow any whine it might have. No complains in this department.

One hand on the FEL control, one on the wheel and foot on the tranny control and away you go.

There's always some who say their hydro doesn't whine, but then you go listen to their vids, and there it is, WHINEING!

I've concluded, like you, they already lost that part of their hearing and think the noise isn't there...

I've yet to see a hydro tractor that didn't whine when it was being worked and that's what MY tractors are used for....work!

All tractors whine... HST just whines more than most. Almost as bad as all the whining about HSV vs gear transmissions...... :)

I will not be mowing with it. Was hoping to stay on track and see if anyone who actually bought a HST regretted it.

I have several of both, hydro and geared tractors...

The BIG thing about hydro's is, all that hydro whine! If you are out there working for hours, it drives you nuts!
