Anyone give up satellite TV for something like Netflix?

If I could get ESPN channels I would drop cable in a heartbeat. I currently pay 190.00/mo for TV, cable and phone. Horrible value. Cable only would be about 60.00/mo.
That's the draw with Slingtv. ESPN is included in the base package, and for $5 more, you can add the sports package that includes all of the ESPN networks and 5-6 other sports channels.

I question the "100% legal" part, seems like just another torrent site. Moot point anyway unless you already have a login...got a message that registration is closed.

Not a torrent site at all as you're not downloading anything. I'd think after 12 or 13 years of using this site almost daily, I'd have heard from my ISP or would have been caught by now if it were illegal...

I have no login and I have never needed to register anything ever with this site.
Matter of fact I'm not at home and am using someones laptop and just followed my link and saw nothing that asked to login or register.

I clicked on some show called 12 Monkeys that aired 14MARCH and it popped open in another window (as usual), I waited 10 seconds and the show started.

Totally stumped at what you are referring to that "registration is closed"...

Often times with these sites the content is streamed from torrents, 100% legal!??
if you get sick of the adds and hijack viruses give kodi ( formally xbmc) a try, it's free and can stream of pftv without the junk. You'll need to be tech savvy to get setup and running.

Just because you can do it, doesn't make it legal. I've looked into them before, it's torrent.

We gave up on Directv years ago and started streaming NetFlix and Amazon Prime. At first we used a BD player and then a desktop system to go to the TV. The BD player died and it was replaced and the new system handled streaming much better so we have not streamed via the TV is a year or more.

We have thought about buying into one of the companies that streams British TV shows, I think it was Acorn, but have not had the time to sign up.

The kids watch all sorts of TV shows via streaming. We seldom watch movies. NetFlix and Amazon are giving us plenty to watch.

There is also quite a bit of interesting content on YouTube. Its not just videos of kids doing crazy things.

Our Internet connection stinks. It is only 1.5MBs down so we sometimes have to share the bandwidth. Having said that, we can still seem to stream to a couple of computers while working on other PCs. If we want to watch a show on the big TV, someone might have to give up their streaming, but given that a lot of the content we watch is not HD, the download speed is not often an issue. Which is VERY surprising.

To cut the cord, we started streaming with the BD player while we still had Directv. Once we saw that streaming would work, we canceled Directv. Should have done that years earlier than we did and we would have thousands of dollars in the bank.

Ironically, we do have a Smart TV in our bedroom but we only watch BBC murder mysteries on DVD on that TV even though it is setup to easily stream. When our big TV dies or we want to upgrade, we will get a Smart TV for the living room. The TV is the bedroom has very impressive features that we do not use. :confused3::laughing::laughing::laughing:

Later,
Dan

Yep, dumped Sat TV almost 3 years ago. We are on SAT internet, so we can't stream anything for very long without running out of GB's(we are allotted 20GB a month of prime time & 20 GB "off prime time" 2am-8am). So we do netflix and are on the 3 movie at a time plan. We get the movies in the mail, watch them & send them back.

So far it has worked for us, and I do not miss "tv" at all. Matter of fact, now when we are at a public place that has tv on, it really gets under my skin. I will never ever have tv again..........

When everything went digital we were too far out to get anything and were not paying the extortion for satellite. No land line, cable, or OTA. When we moved here there was a 10' mesh dish in the front yard. With a little research and a small investment we got it back into service and have all the channels we need and then some, free.

Was gonna return to the site you'd linked to so as to give more details, but the link seems to have been deleted by the moderators.

Basically, what happened was I clicked on a link to a show, which brought me to another link to the show, which brought me to another link. In the upper RH corner there was a place to log in to continue, but in mid-page there was a notice that registration was closed.
Don't remember what show I'd tried to link to.

I didn't pursue any further...the site seemed dubious and the last thing I wanted was to get some drive-by infection.

We bought a Roku 3 after talking to my brother-in-law and son-in-law, (who only have Roku in their households). Now we are subscribing to NetFlix. We will add Amazon Prime someday and may dump DirectTV all together. Best thing about NetFlix is no commercials. :) Worst thing is watching a TV series and when one episode is over you only have 17 seconds to decide if you are going to shut it off and go get something accomplished or say screw it and watch the next episode.
