anyone have the scoop on .416 Rigby ?

If it's a good price and something you're interested in, do it. The CZ/Brno rifles are very, very good. Hammer forged barrels and so forth. One nice thing is they tend to hold one round more in the magazine than other rifles in the same caliber. For example, a Remington 700 in .375 H&H holds 3 rounds in the magazine, while the CZ holds 5! I don't think there are that many rifles chambered for the Rigby, and most I've ever seen only hold 2 or 3 rounds in the magazine, because of the size of the round.

That's a great rifle, I'd love to see photos of it if/when you pick it up.

update.. I *DID* pick the gun up.

I looked at a few auctions with a similar model gun to get an idea of value, along with the ammo provided, talked it over with the owner.. we both met in the middle at some point.. .. etc, felt I got a decent deal.

While I don't hunt alot.. i do hunt some. I'm not sure this rifle would be suitable for anything in florida except a bear.. though my stepfather does do elk/moose hunting up north quite a bit...

You could take it hog hunting maybe. At least to get it a tune-up before going after moose. Although you wouldn't have to chase a little Florida whitetail very far if you hit him with one of those 400 grain slugs!.....:laughing:

i don't think I'd have to chase a hog any either... last one I dropped with a 30-06 at about 100yds and it dropped in place.. did the kickin-chicken routine for 10 seconds then sat there and waited for me onthe 4 wheeler to come get him...

hitting him with the rigby and I likely wouldn't have hat to gut and be-head him.. nor skin him.. might a done it all in one shot!

With the 3006, I have killed 2 pigs with one shot on several occasions. They weren't very big ones, though...about 80 pounders. I have killed 3 with one shot once using the 375. It's kinda like playing pool, have patience, and get them lined up just right in the scope.

One bad thing...the bigger calibers smoke a lot more and it's harder to see your shot until the air clears.

Most likely it would just blow thru a pig. That is a big heavy round meant for penetration. There would probably be minimal expansion.

Described below would be more typical of a high velocity,thinner jacket hollow or soft point.

maybee go after hogzill with the rigby. we have a few large ones int he area.. not uncommon to see a group of 80-150#'s running and one 250+ with them..

while I feel perfectly sdafe and adequate with a 30-06 and even a 200-300 # hog.. I'm sure the rigby would lay it over on it's side just as well.
