Anyone have worklights installed on their L2800/L3400?

I've been recently thinking of getting a sun-shade installed on my L3400. Got a price from the dealer and I'm pretty sure that I should be able to handle installation.

However, I'd also like to get a front and rear worklight. They said the Kubota worklight kit was about $160 and contained only a rear light and I'd have to go after-market for the front.

Anybody else have worklights installed on the sunshade or ROPS of thes models? What is your setup like?

Any clue how hard it would be for a clutz like me to install the light kit on my own. It's probably going to cost me a couple hundred bucks to get it sent to the dealer. Alternatively I can purchase the parts from the dealer and drive it down to the neighbourhood used tractor dealer.

I installed mine by myself and mounted it in the bolt hole about 1/2 up on the rear of the ROPS and ran the wire down the ROPS and attached it with plastic ties about the same color as the ROPS that the dealer gave me and wired it in under the fender. Make sure you connect it to the wiring that only gives it power when you turn the front lights on. There is a constant power source under there somewhere also that I was dumb enough to use the first time. Looks great, swivels and the light probably didn't cost $ 20 at the dealer, but I can,t remember the price for sure.

I bought two flood lights and switches from TSC @50.00, I already had the wiring and connectors.
I mounted them dead center on my canopy one in the back and the same on the ft. I have a switch mounted for each light under the canopy with the paddle facing aft. of the light assy so when I turn on a light I just flip the paddle toward the light.

There is a hot wire and ground under each fender to plug into.

One flood light is sufficient to see using my FEL with no problem.

i'm going to add 4 55W lights on mine - 2 forward, 2 backward facing, been following kennyd's posts ( http://www.tractorbynet.com/forums/customization/108379-worklights-4510-a.html ) on this under the "customization" folder. i am not going to use the work light fuse/hook up under the fender but run all new wiring which will support the amperage draw of the lights..

thinking about a rain shade as well, who has one on their 3400 and which brand did you go with?

Ok.. I located a yellow and black wire under each fender which is terminated by some kind of a plastic piece each. I am assuming that the yellow is the hot?

There is a factory rear light kit with two lights that mount low on the ROPS - around fender level. I *think* that they hook right into those wires under the fender. Not sure whether they just hook under one fender and then I can use the other set under the other fender for a front flood. The factory rear kit is $160.

Not sure how many floods I can hook into those wires under the fender. I was thinking two rear and one front? Probably can get away with one rear and one front.

This is my setup, the lights work a lot better mounted to a canopy because of the angle in relation to the loader

I had the rear Kubota light dealer installed when I bought the tractor as shown in the attached schematic from the parts manual. He told me additional ones would be about $80 each if I wanted them mounted on my canopy. Tractorsmart.com shows them to be around $80 as well. I was worried about catching them on a branch, so I have not installed them on the front of my canopy. The headlights are practically useless at night with the brush guard. I can't imagine using the bucket at night. I would definitely mount them under the canopy instead of above to protect them.

I used 2 trapezoid 55w on the front and 2 flood 55w on the rear. The lights are wired to 2 switches mounted on the dash (1 front and 1 rear) that operate two 30A relays with primary power directly from the battery and trigger voltage from the key switch. The switches are simple SPST with marine type screw-on rubber boots to protect them from the elements.

I am very happy with this set-up.

mjfox6, I have an L4400 with similar wires under the fender. I have a couple of questions for you and others about this set up:

Is the wire that comes with the factory work lamp long enough to get it up higher on the rops?

What turns the light on and off? Is it just the headlight switch?

For you electrical guys out there, would this factory wiring allow for two lights on each side or would the amp requirements be too high? (And for the record, I know nothing about electricity and use the word 'amp' the same way most of us might use the word esophagogastroduodenoscopy).

Automotive headlight-strength bulbs (roughly 60 watts) only draw 5 amps at 12 volts. The heavy red worklight wire could handle four of them (20 amps) but you'd need to check the fuse and relay ratings. Maybe somebody knows for a fact how many can be hooked up without nuissance fuse failures.
