^^^ I've had to go with Aluminum Decks for my Honda Mowers because the steel deck would rust with the rest of the mower being fine

Ariens is a respectable brand, and yet just one more company making consumer goods without having to spend five cents more then they have to.

It didn't used to be like that. Companies had pride in making a good product and making a profit was almost secondary. Not any more.

Problems keeping yet another small engine running with ethanol fuel is why I went with an electric. Working great so far. It only took Ms. Jay ONE slip before she learned to NEVER get any fingers between the "work piece" and the tailpiece!

LS22E Timber Brute Eco Split - 22 Ton 120 Volt Electric Full Frame Log Splitter - Swisher

I wouldn't mind an electric if they would fit one with a 240 volt engine with some horsepower and a larger cylinder. Splitters around here need to be in the 30 ton class.

I was considering an electric. I can't stand the 3600 rpm drone of a gasser. But now, you are far removed from the price point of chain store offerings. Most of my splitting is done at the wood shed so power supply would not be an issue, just the space required for motor, pump and tank.

I've got an iron and oak vertical/horizontal with the Honda motor. Bought it through my local rental place new at their price:D Still cost a pretty penny, but I haven't found anything I can't split with it. Starts first pull with choke on pretty much every time. About 6(?) years old now, and has probably split over 100 chords. Ranks right up there with my 12 year old north star pressure washer with honda motor. Still starts first pull with the choke on. Pump finally went out this year, grabbed my buddies pump, threw it on and right back to work. That pressure washer does about 10 houses a year.

The swisher motor can be wired either 220 or 110. Comes wired 110. Street pricing runs about $1700.

My best friend has a PTO pump powered splitter and swears by it. The one less motor thing. I noticed no one on this thread mentioned one. I am wondering why?

Because a lot of people (like me) do not have a tractor? I dunno if I would have one if I did have a tractor. I do a lot of short moves around my wood lot with the splitter, pto would require moving two pieces of equipment.
