Tuesday the tree guys cleaned the rest of the hickory tree and took down this pine tree that was leaning against an oak tree. They started at the bottom of the pine tree and cut off 4 foot sections at a time. Each time they cut off a 4 foot log, the remaining section of the pine tree would fall 4 feet to the ground. Eventually the pine tree was almost standing straight up but was still leaning against the oak tree. The tree guy then pushed the pine tree over with his skid steer then cut it up will it was on the ground.

They loaded the large hickory logs and several of the logs lying here onto this logging truck. The remaining parts of the hickory were piled and burned.

Here's where the back porch and deck will go. You can see the 2 rows of bolts that will attach the ledger board to which the the floor joists will be nailed. Two of the blue boxes hanging on wires will contain electrical outlets. I hung the third blue box; I will run at least two cat 5 or 6 wires to this box for computer network and/or phone. There is a similar setup on the front porch.

Eviction Notice Update
My wife talked to the Building Commissioner on Thursday. He said that we can present to the County Zoning Board our case for living in the camper while building our house. He sounded like he would support our request to live in the camper but that it would have be approved by the Board. The next board meeting is July 13; we'll make our case then.

Sounds hopeful on the Zoning board, which is excellent.

And, I am happy to see you cat doing better.

That's good you have 2 weeks to prepare. Write down all your key points and review/discuss them together with the wife. Who will be presenting the case? Are children allowed at the meeting? Just food for thought....

Question regarding one of your previous posts....this Cat 5 or 6 wire", is it for DSL, or fiber-optic/cable for TV and internet? I've seen it in previous posts, and unfamiliar with it, is it for just distributing the signal within the house, or getting the signal from the street to the house?

We just bought a house in the country, and despite repeated requests we are not able to get dsl or cable/fiber to the house. We just got mi-fi with verizon, which hopefully works ok. The former owner had Hughes net but didn't recommend we continue with it....

Best of luck with the appeal!!

We have DSL from the phone company for internet. DSL is transmitted via a regular phone cable. The phone cable from the phone company will connect to our DSL router inside the house. Cat 5 or Cat 6 networking wiring will be run from the DSL router to the network jacks placed around the house and on the porches. Whether we run Cat 5 or Cat 6 wiring depends on how much we are willing to pay. Cat 5 does everything we need to do today but might not handle higher speeds that future technologies may need.

The tree guy made a chair out of the hickory stump.

The wedge cut out in the bottom is a foot rest.

Obed - I know you let him take all the Hickory wood away with him for a price reduction for his work...since that Hickory is worth a good bit to BBQ Restaurants and Furniture makers...

My thought also, brin. Around here when a logger cuts the trees it generally costs nothing for the work and they can have the logs for whatever they want. Or some payment for cutting some of the wood into firewood and they get the logs. Or ..... whatever the homeowner and the logger/tree people decide. USUALLY, if the logger takes the wood there is no charge to the homeowner and could be some cash back, depending on the wood.

Just a thought...

On Tuesday I noticed wasps were buiding a nest where the camper's kitchen range vent exits the camper. The nest had about 3 wasps. I got a stick and knocked down the nest. 10 minutes later I walked past that part of the outside of the camper while watching to see if the wasps would come after me. Normally wasps around here are not real aggressive, even after you have knocked down their nest. Well, a wasp came out and made a beeline at my face. I was a bit surprised at how quickly the wasp got to me. The wasp got between my glasses and my face and stung me beside my right eye. I had to throw off my glasses before I could knock off the wasp.

Fortunately I did not get stung in the eye. I immediately put ice on my eye for 30 minutes which helped minimize the swelling and discomfort. After putting ice on my eye, I used some wasp spray and got rid of the wasps. Wednesday morning I woke up with a bunch of swelling on the side of my face beside my eye. I still have noticeable swelling even today.
