At Last, A Small Pickup?

Have always liked the '93-'96 Dodge Dakotas. Considered a mid-size, but still smaller than a full size. Now drive a full size Ram , love the cab space. Stiff suspension, but quite inside. If you don't need much bed space or ground clearence , Subaru Baja might not be bad. Also, Mopar makes a 'truck kit' to covert Wranglers into little trucks. Costs about 600.00 I think

Had one of these way back when.

Were made from about 61 - 67.

140 or 170 cu in , 6 cyl , 85 HP 25 to 30 mpg

Ford Econoline pickup...
I used to drive one of those for delivering parts from an auto parts store...Joe's Auto Supply...which was right next to my "real" job of working at my Uncle's ice house.
Yep, those were the days...paid for my first car from those jobs. '62 Plymouth Belvedere with a 318 cid engine.

It's too bad that our governments have gone nuts with emissions. I can remember getting 30mpg with a 2wd 85 Toyota. Now with all the regulations the engines got bigger to compensate for all the power robbing emissions and the extra weight.

I doubt you'll see that Mahindra any time soon. It's going to take quite some time to jump through the government hoops to prove their truck meets both emissions and safety standards.

I doubt that it is the government with its emmission regulations. The culprit is the size and mass of the vehicles especially due to safety and comfort equipment. Similarly sized cars of today are about 50% heavier than in the past. In fact I think the engines got significantly more efficient but the gain in efficiency was negated by increased mass and size of the vehicles. If you would roll today's vehicle you would get banged up but you will live. If you rolled a vehicle I grew up with you were certainly dead. That is the difference.
