I have the opportunity to purchase an Athens Model 48 Disc but had a few questions I was hoping someone could answer. See photos below. Thanks for your help.

Would this disc pair well with my Kubota L4701 with loaded ag tires?

One of the outside disc blades is broken off. Are these difficult to replace?

Does anyone have any other information or specs on the Athens Model 48?

You machine is over 45Hp. It will not need tire ballast at all. That disc harrow would seem like a toy to your tractor.

Depending on how to access the end of the shaft, buying a replacement disc should be rather easy. Tractor Supply, Farm & Fleet and Ag co-ops sell these. Just take measurements.

I've attached a PDF. The Athens 37 in the PDF is very much the same as your 48.

You can reach out to Athens via their website too.

In the world of land engagement implements - weight is king. I have a Land Pride dish harrow - DH1048. Looks very similar to what you are looking at. Weight is 420 pounds. It has 12 disks or 35 pounds per disk.

It is well built and would last a life time.

Now the reality. It's WAY to light. 35# per disk simply WILL NOT cut my soil. I have a 400 pound concrete casting. Placed upon this disk - now it's some 70 pounds per disk. This, at least, leaves marks on the surface. Even at 800 pounds - it still will not cut my land.

I have open range land in NE WA state. Range grass on open meadows and stands of pine trees.

I would STRONGLY suggest. Ask to try this disk harrow. See how it works for you before you buy.

I have used the neighbors disk harrow. 118 pounds per disk. Twenty disks. The unit weighs - 2360 pounds. Now this unit WILL cut my soil - about 4 inches deep on the first pass. Not much deeper on subsequent passes. This disk harrow asks all that my Kubota M6040 has to offer - traction wise.

My Kubota has 1550 pounds of RimGuard in the rear tires. I have an 820 pound grapple on the FEL. With nothing on the 3-point - the tractor will weigh 9100 pounds.

Again - give it a try before you commit to purchase.
