GManBart, what was the weight on that thing? It looks "Beefy", (one more question) which tractor do you plan to pull that with? Just wondering....

The paperwork said 635lbs. I plan to use it primarily with my MF241 (48hp/4,200lbs) when there isn't enough snow to bother with my plow. 3" forecast tonight, so we'll see...

If you got trolled it may have been because you seem to lack a basic understanding of economics. Amazon doesn't provide free shipping, or anything else for free; they raise the price on EVERYTHING they sell to cover those costs. Everybody who ships products has to cover those costs one way or another. At least EA will allow you to pick it up locally and save the cost of shipping (some companies won't), and it's not like they're making a secret of that fact. They list their shipping policy, and if someone finds it objectionable, they can go elsewhere.

Kinda. Amazon is a bad example :)

Amazon purposely looses money on their shipping options, and what many people realize is Amazon is not currently profitable on paper so the free shipping on Amazon really is free shipping :)

Thanks GManBart! It looks like a solid attachment for sure.

Here is my take on this "free shipping" discussion which is a classic William James (Pragmatism) scenario.

Nothing is free, and the sales-people can call it whatever they want; the buyer can do that too. This isn't a situation likened to being forced to buy health insurance is it ????

One of the most-basic truth(s) in business or manufacturing of any kind is that overhead (payments) for a product or service simply cannot be avoided. If that can be agreed upon, we can call "Delivery" overhead. The belief that overhead payments (delivery costs) can either vaporize in-to or materialize out-of thin air would be an example of Inductive Reasoning (aka a fallacy).

Deductive Reasoning: The costs for designing, producing, storing, selling, shipping, and receiving anything and everything must be passed onto somebody (the manufacturer, the seller, the shipper, or the buyer etc) through net losses, direct payments, or through subsidies of some type. Arguably, it even costs money when implements sit on a pallet in storage too...

Congratulations!

What did you pay for the shipping?

Just curious, aren't you?

Irrelevant. Regardless of price, they ARE charging you for shipping, even if you don't see it. It's not "free" in any way, shape, or form.

Wrong, if they have the lowest price inlcuding shipping, there is no hidden shipping cost, though it is absorbed somewhere, it is not passed on to me, unlike the situation in discussion.

I'm not attacking, just pointing out that you either don't know what you're talking about, are confused about how economics work, or are intentionally avoiding the facts. I did that only in the interest of furthering the apples-to-apples discussion you said you prefer. Yeah, a guy who works for the government in Michigan, who doesn't have a single EA attachment, is really likely to have a vested interest in EA...right, that makes total sense.

Don't know anything about your jpb, attachment purchases, or motivation, just that you jumped on and insulted my knowledge base and motivations. However, since you admit later in this post that you are picking up your EA attachment, perhaps the defensive tone in your posts has now been explained.

If they were "secret" you couldn't find those prices out with just an e-mail, or a phone call. Unpublished, or unadvertised would fit, but not secret.

They aren't published, unlike their claim of "free" shipping. At least on the Sweet website, you can look up the difference.

You said some things that were true, I just pointed out those that weren't. Facts are facts, economics are economics, and whether you like a policy or not is an opinion. I didn't say anything about the opinions.

As best as I can u derstand, I simply related the facts, and nothing but.

It is clear that what they offer is a posted price with shipping included, not the free shipping they advertised.

I will have a great day...I'm hoping to pick up my first EA attachment at the freight terminal today :drink:

Again, congratulations, but what hidden costs did you pay.

All due respect,
Thomas

Hi Travis ( and Ted),

There are somethings that are gray areas, or even subject to opinions, and some things that are not.

The definition of free shipping is a legal reality, and all I meant to do was point out that what you offer, while likely a very great deal, is shipping included, and not free shipping by the legal definition.

If there are two different prices fpr shipped and picked up items, the difference is the shipping cost no matter how you slice it or want to paint it.

I have benefitted from your input, Ted's videos, and the ability to compare equipment I may see elsewhere with a very high objective standard (i.e., EA's brand of attachments) and appreciate all of these benefits, so I do not have anything against you at all.

But truth is truth, at least in this case.

Thanks,
Thomas

PS: I would not hesitate to buy from you, but I would ask what it is costing me to ship whatever I ordered...

Y very
Ok, so I showed Ted this thread before I hit the post button. He said there would be good and bad with it so I brought it on myself. There are some that see it like we intend and, like always, others that would rather believe that they're being deceived.

My intention of this thread was to inform you that our shipping is generally very reasonable, no matter how far away you are from us. I was prepared to receive negatives, and do not take offense....It is what it is!

Rather than relying on an automated shipping calculator, we prefer to handle that ourselves, personally. This provides you with more options and a better explanation of the extremely easy buying process with ETA.
If you have questions regarding shipping or local pick-up(which is not a secret BTW), we are a phone call, email, or TBN PM away. We also have an online chat feature in the top corner of our website that I man during business hours. The chat is challenging for me at times because the phone continues to ring, but I think it is helpful for some customers.

The people that see our policy as intended have done a great job explaining the free shipping philosophy. It could be debated all day, everyday...sorta like pallets,, but when it comes down to it, we do our best to provide you with the best value on the market.

Ted started designing and manufacturing to raise the bar and provide you with higher quality attachments than he could buy as a dealer. Going that extra mile is much harder at times than simply buying and selling, but it is truly worth it!

I hope that our valued customers will continue to share their experiences with everyone! Thank You!
Travis

This is not just tomatoes vs tomaters, as you so simply put it, it is about significant amounts of money being spent for what is advertised as free shipping, which is all well and good, if that is ok with you.

Feel free to click that ignore button, as I'm going no where, and the only dog I have in this "fight" (truly no axe to grind) is truth, nothing more or less.

To use your idiom, feel free to pee up a rope, or pound sand, or whatever, you jumped in on ME regarding this, no one solicited your opinion, just like no one did mine, so we both have an equal right to express ourselves...

Tomatoes, or maters ; potatoes, or taters ??? Get the picture ?

Obviously, you do have an ax to grind, and your caustic attitude comes through loud and clear. As I previously stated, I am more than willing to drive over two hours round trip to pick up my items delivered to the terminal, FOR FREE... please let us enjoy our relationship with EA, as is. Go pee on someone else's parade.

My only problem with EA is that they continue to advertise their merchandise with free shipping, and if there is a "picked up" price, and a delivered price, by definition, shipping is not free.

Thanks for the philosophy/economics lesson though...
Thomas
