Bo - Are you planning on an awning over the door to protect it from the weather?

Front steps. Eventually I want a full front porch.

That's good Bo. Any details about your solar system you would like to share?

I have 12 panels on the roof (255w), 16 batteries, and an Outback system (inverter, controller, charger), and a step down transformer for the propane backup generator.

It is so nice being able to plug into my own solar power instead of running a generator all day.

I bet it is. I was really glad when our utility power got connected after powering the house build, the well pump and our camping trailer with the generator for just 3-1/2 months. The silence was golden after hearing it run day after day, plus buying 20 gal. of gas frequently.

Looks like a nice 3 kW system with plenty of battery storage guessing from their physical size.

I've been generator powered for the past year, and I'm estimating I spent close to 10 grand on gasoline. The generator is in the garage now!

$10k for gas?!?!?! Holy cow. We had power within a month or two of starting framing. And that was utility power. Of course i spent a fortune heating the place in the first winter without insulation...

Gasoline is (I think) the most expensive way to fuel a generator. I have a 10hp thumper diesel that sips off road fuel. I put some biodiesel in it 6 years ago during a hurricane and it still smells like french fries! I hated Dad's old gas generator when I had to use it before I bought my diesel set.

I have a 6 HP Yanmar diesel air cooled generator, starts first pull every time and runs a long time on very little diesel. It gets toted around the farm whenever I need remote electricity. I have a 13 HP gas on the house but I have not had the power go out since I bought it. The diesel is just too noisy to run near the house.

The 6 HP diesel pulls harder than the 13 HP gas, but you only have to pull the diesel once.
