I just bought some treated southern pine for an outdoor project. The lumber yard guys say to let it dry for a week on a flat surface in the sun, so that it will take stain or paint better. I left it out from Friday till Wednesday, 6 full days in the full sun. I left it on my 16' trailer out in the middle of the field and turned it every day. People will also tell you to get the green copper sulfate or whatever it is treated with, off before painting.
I think if I put my new boards out in the sun like that, that they would be pretzels in a couple days.
I put some clear solvent based waterproofer on 2 of the boards, and I put some polyurethane stain on the outer board that shows. im not plannings on painting that board. Maybe a coat of varathane.
Remember, you're supposed to be retired. Take apart the word retired, re-tired. Means you get tired all over again. LOL.
It’s not possible to get the treatment off the boards. The wood treatment is done under pressure, so it’s deep in the wood. And that’s a good thing to ****** rot and insects.
I know. I keep telling my wife I should go back to full-time employment. This retirement stuff is hard work.
