We got a more serious snow moving in and I got the original specs trip springs added this afternoon. Please note, it snows here about 5 days out of the week. They worked OK but seems they should be a tad stiffer. I'll post a photo in a bit that shows how I could reduce the tension on the current springs, yet add another set. The BAD thing about steel springs is they have a very flat rate of compression.

OK, I've got two spring sets here and was considering adding the 2nd set which are made from lighter wire. Then tapper back the preloads on both of them. As seen in the 1st photo, the flange they connect to on the blade is quite wide and I could drill two additional holes to the left and right of the original one, allowing enough space for them both. Of course I'd need another hole where the bottom hooks into the push frame as well.. Yes I do know what trip springs are for.

What do you think?

It boils down to what is going to work for you.

On my MF Dozer Blade, there are 2 trip springs and also an "U" shape flat bar that can be bolted in such a condition to lock out each of the trip springs.

I've had mine lock out for about 10 years now, so it's just a rigid blade, works for me because I mostly use it on my property and I go slow.

I normally only use the blade at the start/finish of the snowy season.

OK Guys. With my work machine broke down, I got the day off the trails. So I got my double trip spring setup added and tested. Also moved the the lift hook via Gary's suggestion. I pushed snow and was happy with its performance!! The snow pile in the 7th photo is about 6ft tall.

In the first photos, you can see the 2 new holes drilled to attach trip springs. The black ones now have more arch to them so they are tensioned near zero. The shinny inner ones are doing most of the work but were moved closer to the pivot point.

(bonus BS info) In the 2nd photo, you can see a anvil is holding up the push frame up. This was owned by my grandfather and dated around the turn of the century. He was a child of Norwegian immigrants.

Maybe I should add some worthless factoids to this thread. I own a Hondu snow blower and love these little 8hp, hydro-static drive units. I've owned these units for over 20 years and just buy another when they wear out. Nonetheless, as stated earlier, we get modest amounts of snow about 5 days a week and this is typically just a few inches. So why go to blow just 3"?? So maybe its no shock, that it gets left. This blade makes it so much quicker to remove these smaller amounts and doesn't fill the air (and covers me) with snow.

My weight mount/plow sheave anchor was found to be less than sufficient so I need to get back into the shop and fix it. I'm out of the grooming business on Tuesday for servicing of da bully so I should be able to get into the weld shop and correct it. Stay tuned for more.

With warm temps here, the boss shut down grooming operations which allotted me time in the school shop today, so I revamped my lift bracket/weight peg. I just got home and reattached it and went to plowing this warm snow about. Like KC says, I needed to see how high I'm lifting the darn plow and "believe" I got that problem masted. Going to high is how I damaged the weight bracket. So I pushed this warm snow about and I'm quite happy with how it preformed. With the dearest still at work* I got no photos worth publishing but nonetheless, the plow doing the job I hoped it would do..... Will even plow the yard grass up. (yards here don't freeze, due to snow cover)

* she makes all the real $$$ here.
