Tractor
Kubota B2920
I recently bought a B2920 Kubota tractor that is rated 29-30 hp with 21 hp at the pto. I already have a good 60in. King Kutter rototiller that weighs 690 lbs, and is rated for tractors of 25-40 hp. Will this rototiller harm my tractor by using one this large. Also when a piece of equipment says it is for tractors of 25-40 hp, is that talking about the motor hp or the power at the pto. Thanks

I have a 60" KK tiller and I have used it with a B2920, L3700, and now a
MX5100. I would only use the B2920 for a small area.(less the a 1/2 acre) Go slow and plan to go over it two or three times. Once the initial ground is broken it goes much smoother. I would not subject a B2920 to an all day outing on firm sod. The L3700 worked much, much better. But on ground that has never been tilled before the first pass will be a bit of a rough ride. But the L3700 handled it . The MX5100 is a totally different story. You barely know it is back there. No matter which tractor I have used, I found the KK tiller to be one tough son of a gun. I have had mine for almost 5 years and it has seen severe punishing service without failure. They are built well especially considering the price. Good luck but go easy on that B2920.

Another thing you could do is remove the end tines on each side. That would probably help alot. Although I have never tried that.

Thanks, we only have small gardens so can take our time tilling. The 60in. tiller I have is offset to one side so I can remove a set of tines and even it up straight behind the tractor. I think it has 6 flanges with 6 tines per flange. That should help some. I wasn't sure if I need to sell my KK and buy a 48in. tiller or not. After buying the tractor I was needing to save a buck if I could but don't want to hurt the tractor by saving a few dollars.

If the tiller has a slip clutch make sure it is operational and not rusted together. With the slip clutch functional and the HST on the 2920 you should be able to regulate the forward motion of the tractor so as not to make the tiller take too much of a bite. If you do hit something the slip clutch should save you.

You have more hp on the 2920 than I have on my 7510. It has been one rugged machine. With care you can run it all day long.
