b2920 running cold

   / b2920 running cold #21
My 2920, took delivery late November also runs cool even after running for 3 or 4 hrs. in 55 deg. weather. I'm thinking they just have higher capacity cooling system than needed.

For those that aren't taking engine temperature (cold engine) seriously don't be surprised if you see a thick milkey looking residue on the dip stick, on the bottom of the filler cap and in worse cases the inside of the valve cover will be coated with it.

This particular stick is from my air cooled lawn tractor engine that gets used in cool weather where the oil never gets close to the correct operating temperature. The white residue is transferred to the stick from the filler tube as the stick is pulled. Looking into the tube with a light shows the white moisture residue coating at the bottom of the tube.

I had a bx 25 last winter and gauge read above c on gauge .but this is the first winter for this b2920 tractor ,in the summer the gauge read ok aprox 1/4 inch abouve the c, and a week ago i checked upper rad hose temp and lower rad hose temp and the thermostat didn't open ; if you stand near the engine with it running i can see why the engine runs cold boy that fan realy mouves air .I will recheck this this weekend its supose to be warm aprox 42 f or 5 celcius.

My B2920 Is the same way. My 2012 Diesel work truck dose it also, If I let it idle it cools right down. Have to turn the throttle up or I freeze.

A diesel engine is Moving so much air internally, at idle ... it is Air cooled. Has little use for the liquid cooling system...

Blocking the air flow through the radiator Will help get the engine & oil warmed up... The engine needs No additional Cold air blowing across the outside of the engine...,
Gasoline engines will Heat at idle ... a diesel engine, Not somuch...
I have Always blocked air flow on diesel engines during the winter.... Either with factory air dams or the ones I have devised to do the same.... On tractors, mowers, trucks & heavy equipment...I have never had a diesel engine that had any over heating problem with blocked rad air flow, even when worked Very hard... KennyV
