Of course, your truck is modified , but I bet you think we forgot that :laughing: My gosh this is good stuff. Now my DMAX has to beat a modified ford to be better.
Builder, your trucks not even modified? Geez, what do you wear a dress when you drive it.
BTW Dargo, making a modified diesel truck run sub 15-sec quarter mile runs is hardly a challenge.

Timswi, nice truck! I really like the looks of these trucks and the interior is very comfortable. I would like to see what you are getting for fuel mileage after you've put on some mileage unloaded and towing.

Yes, I caught you got a REAL TRUCK like Builder. My stomach is still turning.

As for him comparing my 5.6L Titan to a 6.2L GMC is a no brainier for me at least. The GMC will eat its lunch but when my truck was made, 08, there was no 1/2 ton that could touch it. Just like the new 2011 diesels from GMC and Ford would eat his 07 Dmax and my 06 PS for breakfast. I am smart enough to figure that out again. Comparing apples to oranges when you are giving up about 50 HP and 150 FT TQ.

Lets compare even model years and keep it on a even playing field.

Chris

OK, I would agree with that. I was comparing my truck to the competition that was available in '07. I thought your Nissan was an '09.

I agree about comparing apples to oranges. It doesn't work. It's like comparing a modified truck to a stock truck.

Oh boy..look out for flying beer bottles.

Nah, there are a huge number of here who get a kick out of his posts. It's just older heavier kid saying "The eraser on my pencil is bigger than yours!" LOL I don't know of anyone here who takes that person seriously.

And you think I said it is? However, there is quite a difference between getting under 15 seconds with a truck and running just over 14 seconds with a truck weighing well over 8000 pounds. The Dodge I drove for 10 years ran about the same and towed really heavy loads, not SCUT or CUT sized tractors on car trailers, that entire time. The only bummer with the Dodge was that it cost me a small fortune for the transmission after the mods. I've spent just over $700 to get my current pickup to run like it does. And, technically, it is not mechanically modified. I'd bet the new Dodges would be the same. Google Scheid Diesel. I live close to their main store and attend most of their events. By a far margin, Dodges are tops in nearly every single class in racing and pulling both. You get a select few GM or Ford pickups make the top 10 in some classes from the guys who spend big bucks to get there.

But, to the original topic, I think the 1/2 ton GMC pickup ought to be a great truck. However, like millions in this country, I have such a bad taste in my mouth from GM burning their stock holders this year that you can etch it in granite that I'll never buy another new GM product again in my life unless GM does the right thing and goes back and repays all the money they stole. Face it, filing bankruptcy is just a legal tactic to get out of your written "promise" to repay money you borrowed. I do, however, completely understand individuals having to file for medical reasons. Medical charges are so high because a large percentage of patients never pay or ever intended to pay. That causes the physicians and hospitals to stick it to those who can and do pay. Anyway, I just wanted to make that clarification in case some here may have had to file a medical related bankruptcy.

I just like the good old round table ribbing. Lets face it, none of us will ever see eye to eye. If that were the case there would be one perfect truck sold and no others. I get a chuckle out of these threads. No matter how civil they start they always end up the same.:laughing::laughing: I can laugh at it and myself and not take it so seriously unlike some...

Here's some somewhat better pictures since some guy's wanted to see it. It's like 10 degrees outside, appears that the camera isn't too thrilled about it.

Congratulations, that's a beautiful truck. I especially like how you got one with the fold down center console instead of the bucket seats. A lot of people think I'm nuts but I much prefer the 40/20/40 bench seats to bucket seats with a center console (heck the seats are the same regardless it's just the center that's different).

I guess my experience with the 5.3 Liter was different than most people's. I never had any problems with the power that the engine put out. The only reason I upgraded to a diesel was for suspension. My 1/2 ton squatted too much for my liking with my tractor and brush hog weighing in at around 10,000 pounds. My backhoe adds quite a bit more weight over the brush hog and there is no way I would have felt comfortable towing that much weight behind the 1/2 ton. I never had any complaints with getting the 10,000 ponds moving though, even with the 3.42 gears. I was perfectly content not doing 80mph with that much weight on a 1/2 pickup anyway, and the only place I had to slow to about 55 mph was on a long, steep grade heading South on I-87 in the Adirondack Mountains North of North Hudson.

As an aside though I will admit that towing my tractor for the first time a couple of days ago I was very impressed with my 6.4 Powerstroke. The truck pulled the load like it wasn't even there. Well I guess it knew the load was back there but it really handled it superbly.

Thanks Cheg...I like the seating arrangement too..Gives some flexability.

7000# will be it's max unless I buy another travel trailer...The way it feels so far, I think it'll be OK..time will tell on that

I never had an issue with the 5.3 either...It made most of its power at the higher RPMS..So it did fine, just had to wind it up like weed-wacker sometimes.
