Backhoe- which size?

Thanks for the advice. Do you use a top link?

My dealer has a low hour used BH760 which I'm going to go pick up next week. I think my wife's more excited than I am- one of the BH projects on the list is clearing a space to build a much needed garden shed.

if it is a sub frame mount backhoe, no you will not have to use any 3-point linkage, in fact you will have to remove them to use the backhoe, the 3-point backhoe is the only one where you will need to use the top link or other 3-point linkages.

I hope she gets to use it.

Are you dealing with Branson in Santa Rosa or Fresno?

Dave's in Red Bluff. Mostly she's excited about the work I'll be doing for her with it.

It's a Branson BH760 so it has the Branson subframe. In researching it here some people use the top link to reduce bounce (I assume from the subframe flexing).

Old style subframes (mostly under the tractor) really should use the toplink connection for extra stiffness. Modern subframes (so-called 4-point mounts) often do not. In my custom subframes, I sometimes use 4 mounting points PLUS the toplink holes. I don't know what Branson uses. Some of those OEM subframes (both kinds) really stick the hoe WAY out back.

Red Bluff is a long way to go, but Dave is a good guy.

This thread has some good pics: https://www.tractorbynet.com/forums...w-branson-bh250-backhoe-here.html#post5161210
Here's a video of dismounting it: How To Dismount A Branson BH7615 & later, BH76C & BH86 Backhoe... Upload by Big Tex Tractor Co. - YouTube

The subframe hooks on the mounts for the lower 3pt links on the rear axle and the front part attached to a frame cross member at the front of the transmission. Bransons have two big bars that go from the axle to the rear of the engine and connect to the loader mount. The BH subframe fits between those. Is this the old style subframe? I've seen pics of Kubota's four point mount and that seems like it'd be easier to get on and off and the subframe would not be in the way when the backhoe's off.

That is the old style. I call them "ladder frames". The Kubota 4-point mount is the new style, and they have been around quite a while. These 4-point subframes are more like those on industrial/commercial TLBs, like the B26, L47, etc. The foreward half of the subframe stays on the tractor, while the rest stays on the hoe.

I viewed the video, and that subframe would benefit from the toplink holes being used with a link for stiffening.

Photo is a Kub with Woods 4-pt hoe.
