thanks guys,

there is talk of covering the deck now, to get a small area to sit out in if the weather isn't good or if
the sun is hot...

Good Afternoon Dutch,
Sorry for the late post but saw your link on Lloyds' thread and just read your thread...

What a beautiful job, its allways amazing how such a large area will shrink when you start filling it with variouas things...

Im sure you will enjoy it for many years ! :)

Hey Scott!
good to hear from you again

thanks, we love the new patio, and as time goes on, it just looks like it's been there , it really fits the area we put it in.
i had originally planned a phase 2 of the patio to bump out a semi circle and put a fire feature in it, but our design
changed a little bit (as i was doing it) and i'll have to rethink where to put it, but there is plenty of room still.

take care

the base was recommended by the landscape guy i bought the materials from (they also
do installs) along with the manufacturers guidelines.. could be due to the freeze/thaw
cycles in winter, and the more base the better the drainage, and maybe less chance of
uneven heaving etc.
now i'm looking into fireplaces, and hoping if i build a small brick one that i can put
it right onto my existing patio, i'm pretty confident it'd be ok.

thanks PRF!
it's very enjoyable to sit out and think "we did this"

I am really hoping to build a similar patio and have a brick fireplace at the back of my house.

here are some updated pictures
deck railings are finished, we have a canopy/gazebo on the
deck, makes it nice for real hot days or light rainy evenings.

finished the led lights around the inside of the wall caps... beautiful. also
finished skirting the deck, and we stained the deck floor a chocolate brown... glad
most of it is covered on hot days,,,,
