Bad Dogs Bad Neighbor

/ Bad Dogs Bad Neighbor #42
When I was growing up we would spend summers at our camp. There were 2 dogs on the road which ran free and were known to be aggressive. The dog next to us was just a chihuahua, but the other was a big GSD. One day I was walking past the big dog’s house when he started chasing me. Like a dumba I ran and he jumped up and nipped me; tearing my jeans and barely drawing blood. For over 25 years I thought it was my fault and never told anybody. Yet the day I got my first dog I somehow realized that wasn’t the case at all; and if I had told somebody that dog would have been dealt with. I also realized that if he’d really meant to bite me, he would have done some damage.
It’s too bad that you can’t shoot the owners.

I totally agree with you - Jstpssng. The dog acts the way it does because the owner fails to train them.

SHOOT the owner - train the dog. An owner who does not take care of his animals - just a worthless waste of skin.

For some reason people don't believe me that if I ever caught one of my dogs biting someone in my presence on my property that didn't need to be bit, I'd put the dog down, there on the spot. Can't remember ever owning a dog that "went" after someone.

If anything they (the dogs) can drive me nuts when they hear someone in the driveway. That said, that's what they're supposed to do anyways LOL

Your dog, your responsibility. A dog that bites or acts aggressive towards humans off the dogs "turf" is a disaster waiting to happen. It's not a question of "if", but "when".

That said, we have people who apparently can't control their dogs and their own adult children. If a 26 year old is playing with the OP's mailbox, tells you enough about the parents.

Someday the dogs may just snap.

Years ago I used to walk my dad's Big Lab when he vacationed out of town. On the route there was a family with two aggressive large dogs , like what the OP is describing. After my dad returned I told him those dogs were eventually going to attack someone or their dog if something wasn't done.
Dad said oh they are just barking and it is no big deal.
About a month later my dad tells me his elderly neighbor was walking his small dog on the same route.

Well the two large dogs attacked and killed his little dog.

Not sure what else happened but I but I bet there was a lawsuit involved.

Keep in mind, I was on the town road at the time. I've often said the same as you if my dog ever bit somebody. I often take him to places like the hardware store and based on comments I get, can't believe that there are people who will bring an aggressive dog out in public places.

In a lot of places, that would have been the end of both dogs.
Would have been there too, but they didn't want to risk their CC permits. If it was a bit more rural...... well.... 🙄🙄🙄

It seems like the DNA of the stool sample would be somewhat incriminating, although you would need to prove they put it there.
... because you'd need to be able to convince that ONE juror who believes in poop thieves and conspiracies. ;)

12 ga shotgun.

Shells loaded with rock salt for the idiot kid. Next time he walks on your place... BANG.

Shells behind that one loaded with buckshot for the dogs and anyone else that didn't get the first message.

Have the backhoe warmed up and waiting to dig the hole(s).

Of course I'm kidding.*

*...or am I?

It's still assault with a deadly weapon. The orchard owners in the town where I grew up used to guard their crop that way. Everybody knew it. but one night their son "a-salted" the town drunk.
He did 2 years in prison.

I'd rather pay idiots to leave my mail box alone than pay lawyers.
Contact your mail carrier, he's undoubtedly found the mess while delivering your mail. He might think you left it for him. Ask the carrier for advice. He might file his own complaint and/or tell you what you can do that will get results. If carrier isn't aware, talk to post master and offer video. The postal service own's the box and it is indeed a federal crime to mess with it,not to mention exposing carrier to hazards.
As for those here saying videos are useless, they are the same crowd that comments on any and everything, don't believe them. While working a crime, the police routinely solicit videos caught on ring and other cameras.

A rash of car break in's here were caught on Ring doorbell cameras. The videos were used to prosecute the idiots.

... The postal service own's the box ...
That's kind of a half truth. The postal service owns some mailboxes, but they don't own all mailboxes. As this document at the USPS shows, they specifically talk about who's responsibilities mailbox maintenance and repairs are depending on who owns it. That implies they don't own all mailboxes.

I served on a jury for a stabbing case outside of a 7-11. The damning evidence was the 7-11 video of the guy stabbing the victim. Clear as day. Even without any witnesses testimony, that video would have nailed him.

Correct, but that doesn't go far enough.

From this USPS site; MAILBOX VANDALISM ISN’T A JOKE
Mailboxes are protected by federal law, and crimes against them and the mail they contain are considered a federal offense. Violators can be fined up to $250,000 or imprisoned for up to three years for each act of vandalism.
Case in point; years ago one of my parent's customers was driving past the house and to save the price of a stamp, dropped an envelope with a check into their mailbox. The postal carrier found it and he was arrested. I don't know what came out of it but when he talked to my parents he was scared witless about what could happen to him.

Yep. Only stamped mail can be put in a mailbox. Someone can't come along and put church fliers, lost dog ads, free air conditioner if you buy a furnace ads, into a mailbox. They can't hang things from the mailbox exterior, and I don't think they can even hang things on the post. There's regulations about newspaper delivery tubes being mounted to the post, they can't touch the mailbox, can't protrude past the front of the closed mailbox, and can only have the name of the publication on the box. All kind of neat stuff.

But the USPS doesn't own all the mailboxes. ;)

Maybe not but they can own your hind end over monkeying with one.

Drive by their house at night and throw out sponges soaked in bacon grease. Dogs try to eat them and choke to death. I have no use for a mean dog.
I don't either yet it's not your call. I also have no use for somebody who intentionally tortures an animal.
