Then they charge me for carpenter pencils and blue buckets for me to do their advertising, They should be free; used to be years ago.

Ron

No different than any other corporation or company putting their logo on what ever they are hawking in big bold print . Particularly clothing. I refuse to pay good money to walk around like a billboard advertising their brands.

How do you get cashier's checks, wire escrow funds, get bulk coins for change, foreign currency never stepping inside a bank?

One of the properties I managed has a coin laundry... I was forever rolling quarters for deposit after they took out the coin counter...

Again... the banks here often have armed guards such as BofA and Wells Fargo... all have plexiglass in the lobby and some like Chase you can only enter by being buzzed in through two sets of doors...

When the banks started accepting check deposits via cell phone I thought OK... this is great... my joy was short lived as I learned there was a daily limit and dollar amount limit per checks... no way was I going to be able to deposit rent roll checks using one of these apps...

Cashiers checks online or phone call, wire online or phone call. Generally $20 fee waived, generally free overnight shipping or a couple dollars.

USAA daily mobile deposit limit is $100,000/day

I have Wells Fargo business accounts and well they are terrible. Want me to come in the building for every little thing. Really need to find a more business friendly bank that isn’t stuck in yr 2000.

10,000 daily limit and a stupid low monthly cap, have to go to location for cashiers check or wire. Ugh, makes me mad just thinking I’m still with these people.

No coins here... or cash for that matter, pretty rare I have either, doesn’t make financial sense to ever use cash, almost always cheaper on plastic. If I do need cash for labor or something, USAA will reimburse any and all ATM charges up to some amount per month.

One of the managers said they are actively hiring but can't find people that can pass drug and background for wages offered and it is worse now with legal pot...

#1 they shouldn't be testing for a legal substance. If something happens on the job, the employee has already signed up for a drug test as part of their employee contract. There are tests to help determine if the employee was using at the time of the accident. This has been the case at many (all that I can think of actually) labor jobs I've worked since the 90s. Home Depot needs to get off their high horse with this, much like Chic-fil-A is beginning to do, if they want to continue to increase profits. Don't get me wrong, I'm not promoting the use of anything.

#2 I believe this is a cop out answer on the part of the store. If they pay better, employees come, smoking mary jane or not. Simple as that. I don't buy the "whoa is me, can't find employees" corporate line in this case. For skilled workers it's a different case.

There you go. Rub it in and mention MENARDS. Menards puts both Lowes and Home Depot to shame. And there aren't any Menards stores east of Ohio. We travel far west every year and I just love shopping at Menards stores. :)

Yep, and we know why store clerks nearly have a heart attack when they see you up on those ladders carrying boxes down.

They are building a Menards by me in WV. Very close to both Home Depot and Lowe’s.

Yea, I don't think Farmer can prove that. Lowes has been slowly raising their prices s well as their competition.

Ron

I have no idea where Home Depot or any other company is putting their profits. Was suggesting that a company might lower prices to sell more, which potentially increases revenues if they are getting more customers. On the other hand, corporate fat cats could be stuffing their pockets with the labor savings. Or somewhere between. I also previously suggested they could hire more greeters, especially people who might not have the skills/physical ability to do other jobs. I have no idea if there is a direct link between the two but it makes me feel better that they hire those people for those positions, so I'll continue to think that my using the self checkout enables this. :)

The fact that prices are going up might or might not have a direct correlation with the reduction in labor costs. For example, if the price went up by 30% but the company can reduce labor costs to cover for 15%, there is still going to be a 15% price increase. It's not all even trade offs, it's a balancing act.

I didn't need to respond to the other post because they are correct, I should have stopped before that paragraph. The optimist in me struck again! :)

Couple months ago my Township bought a new $250K road grader. It was delivered with Dealer Prep problems. Still has a couple. Second time the service truck came to work on it he made the comment that the dealership must have forgot to put their large logo on the side of the machine. I said no they didn't forget, I removed them. He didn't say anymore, just went on working on the machine.

I do that all the time..... :)

In regards to prices and profit. I understand the delicate balancing act that corporations have to play in this regard.

In regards to reducing employee numbers. I think that's considered first to increase profits. Secondarily it might nudge the prices down a bit. But probably not.

Since this is the latest rant thread about lowes:
I frequent two lowes, on in Alexandria, Va, one in Tupelo, Ms.
The Tupelo, Ms staff is pretty good most of the time. Not the Va. people.
I like to order online for pickup of things that may be in short supply.
In Va it used to be that they would email me when they pulled the stock and set it aside.
I've been burned when:
I ordered a bunch of tool sets they were clearing out. Got the email they were ready, when I got there someone else had come in after they emailed me and bought most of them
I ordered a tool cabinet. Got the email , get there, they had to dig in the back and what they brought out looked like it had been run over by a forklift twice.
And last time I ordered 3 sets (they are sold in packages of 3) of Bayco-150-ft-Plastic-Cord-Organizer/1260167 that showed "in stock". Got an email they ordered it from the warehouse and it was going to take a week. Finally got the email it was in. Got there and not only did it take the clerk 15 minutes to find the order, when he brought it up it was ONE PACKAGE OF 3. Then he tried to argue that there were three individuals there, counted them twice for me. Then admitted he was wrong, asked if I wanted to order more, I told him to cancel the order and to stick them where the sun don't shine.
I've also had four online orders canceled in the last few months because days after they sent the email that the items were processing they were out of stock.
