Barndominium/Shop or "real" House?

It wants to keep raining here. So going to go after work every day this week and make a few passes with the loaded dump truck.

I use the front tires of my backhoe with a full load of dirt in the front bucket. Your dump truck is heavier, and I bet it does a better job!!!

I did the same thing with my BH on red clay fill for my pole barn. Interesting- it seemed like I was over-compacting it since the clay would eventually delaminate a few inches on top. No cement cracks after 20 years though.

As an aside, the cement contractor recommended #5 crushed limestone for the final layer. It's about 3/4" stones with no fines. I rented a compactor and it wasn't compacting. Contractor said later he recommends #5 because it doesn't need to be compacted. Must be like trying to compact marbles.

I am getting 8 loads of "crusher run" this week to finish off this bed, mostly the perimeter where the post holes will be drilled. It is fines all the way up to 2".

Then the perma-columns and barn shell can be put up.

For the concrete floor, yes, I have been told 3/4" washed stone would be put down and screeted level. I guess they don't even compact it. Which I thought was odd.

I Built a sod cutter last year. Using it to define the edges of the driveway leading up to the barndominium.

Will hog out the rest of it with the FEL on the backhoe.

Thats a pretty slick cutter - like how it defines the curve.

I like it. I'm not sure what it does, but it sure makes a nice line in the grass!!

I Paint lines on the grass first then try to follow them, driving quite slow.

The sod can be rolled up but gets heavy quick.

There is still a lot of manual labor involved in removing the sod from the site.
